I am new to this posting so please take it easy on me. I just purchased a MEP 004a generator with only 27 hrs. It looks brand new. After changing the oil, draining the fuel filters, installing new batteries. checking the antifreeze and adding fuel it was time to start it up.

It turned over one time and fired up. All of the gauges came to life (Volt 120 208, Hertz to 60 with RPM).
The outlet also has 120 volts and will power shop tools.

As soon as the generator started the overload light came on and stayed on as long as the unit is running. There is no load connected to the generator. I have read the operation TM and just downloaded the depot TM.

Is this a connon problem that others have had or should I head to the TM and see what I can find there.

Thanks

I cannot help directly, however pop open the TM and find the search bar and just search overload - you should find troubleshooting steps.

Turned out to be a bad overload relay assembly. The overload relay is more than just a relay, it determines the overload by using the output from one of the current transformers.
