MEP-803a low fuel shutoff ?

Brought home a low hour MEP-803a today ('07 model). Made the rookie mistake of filling it with fuel at the gas station on the way home. Well it has the dreaded wellnut leak. Lots of diesel in the flatbed. I already have a new wellnut on the way from Daybreak.

Does the low fuel shutoff circuit keep the genset from cranking at the panel? I cranks over fine with the deak crank switch but will not crank from the panel. The tank is completely empty.

Once I fix the fuel leak is there any trick to getting it primed since it is bone dry?

Thanks.

Yes that is correct. If the low fuel shutoff circuit is activated, you can not do anything from the main panel. It will not even run the fuel pump in the prime and run position.

Howdy,
It also all depends on what switches are set where.
MEP-8xx checklist.
batteries in good shape
fuel in system
oil level good
dead crank switch set to normal
emergency stop button pulled out
phase selector set (behind panel (single phase 120/240 etc))
turn to prime & run wait...... wait some more.... you here the sounds change of the fuel pump...(the fuel system self primes and returns fuel back to the tank)
turn to start wait... don't let go to early... hold on start until you see a good oil pressure reading., ok, let go
adjust the throttle to have 60Hz, and then adjust the volts to your 240
check for leaks
check for operation
check power at receptacles
check power at lugs

put a load on your generator
convenience receptacles are rated at 10amps, don't blow it. Use the lugs for a real load

To prime it is easy. Turn S-1 to the prime position. Wait a bit turn over the engine. Its self priming. Make sure your batteries are charged. You can crack the input line to the injector pumps, but 99.99999999% of the time, simply crank the engine, it will clear itself up.

And yes, you can turn the starter over with S-1 when the low fuel circuit is tripped. Try this, S-1 in the Prime position. The low fuel switch sends a signal to the fault indicator. The fault indicator cuts the start circuit from the S-1. So, press the fault indicator reset switch, and HOLD it. Then move the S-1 to the start position. It should start and run normally. BUT, you need to keep the fault indicator reset switch up, or use the S-7 battle short switch. You will not find this bit of info in any manual. CECOM doesn't want people to know it.
