Hi All,
I’m documenting my experience yesterday with an issue I’ve noticed since i bought my generator.
At loads over 2kw, i would notice a faint grey smoke from the exhaust. It wouldn’t necessarily get more visible as load approached 3kw, but it was there. Also, I’d have random load dumps with the ‘overload’ light illuminated from 2600 watts of load or higher. At 3k watts on the red line; it would be smoking black and would never last more than 30 seconds there without tripping.
(I have the excellent Kloppk controller installed, BTW)
Someone suggested checking simple things first, oil air and fuel filter.
I checked the air filter first and it was dark green with hints of soot on the peaks. It must have been the original with around 90 hours on it.
No more smoke, holds load right at 3kw without tripping.
TLDR; air filter may not look dirty but has a substantial effect on these little engines! Try it first.
