Hello,
I could use some help with my AC. Its my 1st time using it. The ac compressor does not kick on. I have the control plan set to "ac", the thermostat set to "decrease" and the fan switch set to low. When it on all i hear is the fan amd no compressor. I checked the breaker and the 2 reset buttons on the back of the unit and nothing seems wrong.
Any ideas?

Does it have refrigerant in it? Usually these get drained prior to going to drmo. You might be able to jump out pressure switches to see if the compressor is good.

I will have to pull the lid to verify if it has refrigerant.
If its empty can I put a different refrigerant in it as R20 is being phased out?

So, it looks like it is indeed empty. So what is the bare minimum of equipment I need to put refrigerant in? Also what about compressor oil? Not sure how to check for that.
Thanks.

If it were me, I would first evacuate the system using a vacuum pump, then charge with 300 psi nitrogen, and see if the system maintains pressure over a few days. If so, drain the nitrogen and evacuate again, and charge with R22. You will need a vacuum pump, a bottle of N2 with regulator, refrigeration gauge set, and a jug of juice as they call it.

Oh and the compressor oil can only be drained by removing the compressor and pouring it out the suction line.
