Is there a preferred side/designated side for the 939 series? I'm thinking right side for cable convenience? I notice on the deuce it will have to be left side but that's down the road, right now need to start drilling holes on the 923A2.

They are typically mounted on the passenger side. It took me a while to get the correct parts as the 5 ton mount and fender brace are not easy to obtain. Once I got my set up pieced together, luck would have it that I found another complete set up on epay cheap with no bids. I threw down a bid and well now I have one on each fender.

I know it is not the way the military uses it but is just looks bad azzed with the tall dual large fiberglass whips. I plan on using one for just a plain ole am/fm radio with an regular radio cable with a bnc connector on the other side.

One of my sugar scoops came with some sort of amplifier bolted inside of it that uses 3 wires. Not sure what that was for?

Hers is a pic of my set up.

If you look in the driver's side sugar scoop, you can see the amplifier bolted in. I will take a closer up pic next week as the truck is at a Boy Scout Camp and I will not be there till Tue.

Where does one tie the antenna down? You have yours towards the back but the mirrors prevent them from tie-ing down all the way (less than 11 feet in height or so). I thought I saw another post where they said they tie down towards the front of the vehicle on the opposite side. So for the passenger antenna, that would be the left front. Does anyone have any pictures?

Thanks,

I tie mine down with the bed hooks on the dropside using the military hold down in an upside down V. It can go further down but I have no clearance issues at this height. I did have one antenna mast first section at the base crack while tied down in my driveway but I think it was probably old and run through the ringer and had a stress crack in the fiberglass.

They tuck inside the mirror bracket and can can go further down. They can rattle against the mirror if something overhead hits them but no issues with them causing mirror problems.

When I am not running them I let them up so relieve stress and keep the spring in the base from developing memory.

The military does tie them down across the hood /fender but that is even more of a severe angle and stress in my opinion.

I look forward to seeing more pics (your post #5). I also invite anyone else with a fender mount antenna to post pics as well if that's ok with the OP.

Mine came from the GL with an antenna mount on the passenger fender. No supports under the fender made it a lot easier to pull off. I'm left with holes in my fenders now though. Mine also had the radio tray behind the seat and some bracketry on the dash that just gets in the way. Best pic I have from GL.

Well it appears to be official, my M923 also has the holes and outline also on the right fender. I just drilled the holes, except for two on my M923A2, just need to get a reinforcement bracket (I'm going to use a piece of 1/8" or 1/4" steel) for the lower two holes under the fender.

what brackets are needed for that type of mount? also what exterior antenna can i use with a prc-9??
It's a two piece bracket+ the sugar scoop. As to the PRC-9 I can't help you. If you want better pics of the bracket parts let me know. There should be four bolts at the front of the fender, I haven't gotten around to drilling them yet.

I have attached pictures of the "amplifier"- not really sure if it is that? It has a ground wire, what looks like a hot wire, an antenna connector on the front and a antenna cable out of the back that the connector appears to be cut off. There is also a chain on the side that I think is to hold a cap on the unit when not in use? It bolts to the inside of the sugar scoop.

I have also attached pictures of the correct mounting on the passenger side and the one I mounted on the driver's side.

Also some pics of my hold down upside down v military antenna tie down and diff pics to show how the antennas clear the mirrors.

I hope this helps and if anyone can chime in on what the gizmo is? :-D

Beautiful pics, Beautiful truck! where'd you get the fuel can at? I bought 3-4 cans that aren't spec and won't fit in the carrier. Interesting box, any numbers on it?

The scepter plastic water and fuel cans should fit the holders ok. I got mine on ebay. No trouble on the fit on mine. Are yours plastic or metal? Are they the knock off european jerry cans as those are different sized. Post pic?

Coleman's Surplus sells the water cans new I think for $39. Armytrucks in the vender's forum had fuel cans a while ago? You might consider a parts wanted ad as I think there are members here who have some to sell.

No numbers that I can see on the back or sides. Box is green carc and stenciled antenna. I have not unbolted it as it came already mounted with the sugar scoop. It might have some info on the front mounting face? I will see if I can unbolt it and check it out?
