Getting M998 ready for Veterans Day events and markings are in order. Can't locate web site or data base to help with acquiring estimated hood registration number based on data plate info. Any help appreciated. Here is what is on data plate:
AM General 163209 NG4LWL 02/95 Daae07-89-c-0998

If you are looking for the registration number it is on the data plate NG4LWL
If you are looking for the unit markings you will have to discover that by trying to go down through the paint layers, no way to look it up.

"Hood" numbers on a HMMWV are/were an USAF thing. They have their registration number there. You have the equivalent for the Army ( NG4LWL ) But until the last decade or so that wasn't usually on the outside of the vehicle, it was normally on the inside of the A-pillar by the driver's left leg.

If you want actual history, you'd have to do a FOIA request, a link to the process is in my signature block.

Curious do those ever get answered?
