Need starter for the 4A084-3 10 kw genset

I used too many amps and volts to jump start my 10 kw genset as i was setting the timing. I took my starter to a local rebuilder and my armature is toast. im not uposed to having it rebuilt but life would be easier for me if anyone happens to know where i could get a working take-off unit or new one. Yahoo has a group for ultralight builders that use 4A032 engines. I posted a need for a starter and a guy sold me one for about $50. They take the starters off to keep weight down. You might try posting there. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/4A032/

that starter is 24v.

Well I figured since the 2 -12volt batteries were not holding charge long enough even though they were brand new i would use my dc generator welder. I set the volts to 24 volts but there were not enough amps so i cranked it up till it turned over it worked for several days then i was way over zellous and cranked it up real far like a dumb @$$ and real good electrical smell was present. future note to myself do not ever use the welder to power the 24 volt system..... as stated above saturn surplus is out of them last i checked 2 weeks ago they are still listed on the site but they are out. i will ty to call them again. thank you for the yahoo option to find one. ~Justin~

is the 4a032 engine the same starter as the 4a084-3 engine?

The forum I cited also had people using the 84 engine but I think the starters are the same.

I have found the mother load. I found a guy in florda with like 40 of them. he is testing 2 for me tomorrow and will be sending them to me. oh and by the way for just the cost of shipping. thats right no cost for the starters. ha ha ha i ordered 2. i will post how the business deal went and if all is good ill post info on how to get them cheep or free so keep looking here.

I bought 3 or 4 of them. One was a complete start kit for the 4A032 and its on my 3kw set. IIRC I paid about $50 each which is half what they normally go for. This info looks accurate.

I paid about $50 plus shipping for the one I got from the yahoo group. I can't remember who the guy was. He also had some misc stuff I needed like the heat shield and choke control temp unit.

i will ask if i could provide his contact info as all i had was a yahoo id and a name. just to be curtious to him. i will keep up and post as soon as i can. i will wait to see if the thing is for real or if he was playing but seems true. i still cant believe the deal of just pay shipping. i will never get over that. but as soon as i get my starters and see if they actually are worth it i will post. i dont want anyone to be wasting their time if this thing is not for real. thank you to the person who led me to yahoo groups. i had to go back to old months discussion and found him. well time for bed. Bruce is for real. A while back he bought a whole trailer load of 4A032s for his little airplane projects. I bought 3 or 4 starters from him. If you need tin or starters, he strips all this stuff off his engines as they are used in ultralights. I seriously doubt that he is not on the level.

I just received a call today from a company in florda who was wanting to sell me a reman starter for like 350.00 not new just reman but he said it looks new. i found a company also who has the 12 volt version and they said they are looking into making a 24 volt version if the need is still there and i think it is there but it must be cost effective not grave robbing. well i did not get a message from bruce about any shipping troubles so i hope it is in transit. ~Justin~

Other than originality, why wouldn't a 12v starter be a better choice anyway? Unless the genset has a built-in charger.

The 5 and 10KW sets do charge the start batts.
