I have been reading this forum for several hours a day the past few weeks in preparation for picking up my Deuce in Tucson. The current plan is to ship it to a buddy’s place in Phoenix and then wrench on it over the winter to make it road-worthy enough to drive it back to Illinois next spring. We’ve been best friends for 30 years and back in the day wrenched on anything that moved, but now both of us spend too much time in the office. In any case, we have never worked on anything this large but look forward to the challenges.

We haven’t seen the truck in person yet but are already starting a list of must do’s and required parts. Some things seem obvious to us no matter what the condition we find with the Deuce – fluids (engine oil, transmission, coolant, transfer case, differentials), brake pads, brake cylinders rebuilt, axle seals, boots, spin on oil filters. Also, in the pictures it appears to have a bad gasket for what looks like a transmission countershaft bearing, and either the oil pressure sender or the gauge.

Question – based on what you see in these pictures, or just in general, what would you add to the shopping list of parts or specialized tools or list for must do’s? For starters we are going to need an axle hub nut socket and a Budd socket, a lot of battleship gray spray paint…

Thanks!

Welcome from PA. I agree, download the TMs and refer to them for every thing you do on your deuce. They are great trucks that will keep you perpetually smiling. Enjoy!

Welcome from Kentucky. The truck looks to be in pretty good shape. Read up on the operator's manual, check/change fluids, inspect the brake system, fresh belts and fuel and I'll bet it would drive straight through to the Land of Lincoln.

Welcome from Ohio! Also to add to your list might be a torque multiplying wrench with an inch and a half socket, for the lug nuts, also a budd socket for the inner duals. If you don't have one of those, make sure you have a powerful impact, as the lug nuts are torqued between 325 and 350 lb ft. Happy wrenching!
