I was just informed I have the winning bid on an '86 M1009. I'm looking for ideas on mounting a winch (12000 lb.) and keeping the stock brush guard. Is there room behind the bumper? Maybe a hitch receiver and a multimount?
I don't even have the darn thing yet and I'm already pouring $$$ into it. This is going to be fun!!

I dont have the link handy but there is a good thread on another Chevy truck site where they build a pretty robust and hidden front winch mount. It was a very good design, well thought thru. Google it if you want to. If I can come up with the link Ill post it. Its out there though.

Welcome to the green side.

Thanks for the help guys. I like the looks of the hiden mounts, but trying to reach that clutch lever when your burried axle deep in the mud ????? No Thanks!

Here's what I ended up doing. It's not perfect, but it seems to work. Just need to clean it up and paint it. The last pic was the test. Plowed that mount into the dirt getting stuck (notice the front tires never spun), then winched it out.
Also, Friends don't let Friends weld with flux core wire!! If I'd have known, I would've brought MY gas bottle for his welder.
