The small black three fingered clip holds the button on. They sometimes just pop off for no reason. ..............
Does one slowly pull the engine cutoff out or just yank it out and leave it out to shut off the engine?
All indications are that the button pops off for a reason. I seek the reason.

I know of a guy who stuck his on with jb weld, bad idea in my opinion, I think the button is there to swivel.

I think they fall off because of the plunger sticking from sticky fuel or debris but I dunno...

I think it's time for a better buttonholderclipthing. I could probably come up with some thing, anyone have a bad HH, button, and clip? I don't want to pull apart either of my "running" trucks.

Well it cranked up, hit high idle than stalled...now I can't get to start...do you guys think I should start the same troubleshooting? Or does this sound like a different fuel problem? Maybe a clog? Wieed how it ran than nothing...

Start by checking filters. With the power switch on, open the filter petcocks on the bottom. Then I'd bleed the fuel at the top of the secondarys. Then I'd give it a whiff of starting fluid. Then I'd check the fuel shutoff rod is free. Then its time to dig into the IP.
