Here's another thought. It might have been covered before. What do you guys think of a charity auction Friday night and the proceeds go to Steelsoldiers. I know most of us have donated money from time to time, but I always have stuff that I could donate and might bring a few dollars. They used to do that at Aberdeen, I don't know if they still do. I know I put off donating money here until the next time I have extra, and that day just don't seem to come around any more.

Anyone visiting FL is welcome to stay at my house for free (just leave some money for utilities)
I am between Orlando and Tampa. About a mile from the beach.
I'm still trying to figure out what beach is a mile away from ANYTHING between Orlando and Tampa..........

Myself and Clinto had a discussion about this.

My suggestion was that folks attending could donate an item from their stash and on Sat night we would raffle the whole lot off. The money could be used to make next years rally better and some some could be donated to SteelSoldiers if the faithful (ticket buyers) agreed.

A "winner take all" would be a good way for someone to go home with a big load of stuff or sell/trade during the last minute frenzy Sunday morning.

Just my input for what it's worth.

Why have one big lot, rather than a few ones? Just curious...
I guess it would depend on how much stuff we had donated.

More lots means selling more chances and I like the KISS principle.

I would rather buy one chance at 25 bucks and stand to gain a large lot than buy several chances on small lots.

Nothing is set in stone. If we decide to do this we will prob do a poll to see what popular opinion is.

The problem with that is that it will only work for the big collectors/dealers like you and CARNAC and others... those of us that are just one-man, one-vehicle operations very likely may not have the space or the desire for a big lot of stuff that doesn't have immediate use, etc.

Just providing another prospective.

Point well taken Cpt......I guess it depends on how much stuff we get (assuming that we do it).

Since I am donating one of my prized farm raised, free range possums alive and on the hoof I can see where there may be tranportation issues.rofl

Never heard of "farm raised" possum; I see free range possum on the side (or in) the road all the time....

I used to can possum. That means putting them in a trash can and re-locating them to dump road when they bothered the dogs too much. If I was closer to wreckerman I would hook him up....

I have a few thoughts on fund raising. Keep in mind I will go along with the crowd and you can't offend me. But I personally like auctions because it's kind of fun if you get a real nut (Kenny or the like) to be the auctioneer and people like me always have something I don't really need but is too much trouble to sell, that I would kindly donate to the cause. And everybody gets what they want when they bid (and win). I know in the past I have really enjoyed participating in the auction at Aberdeen and I did donate a item or two and I always bought something.

This will be the last time I mention anything on the subject because I am not trying to complicate things and I don't want to influence anyone. If we have any type of raffle or auction I have stuff I will bring solely for that. One thing to point out, we need to consider the vendors. If I bring stuff I have sitting around that I don't want and donate to the auction, and a vendor has the same thing for sale, it will hurt his sales. Point is, with such a small crowd (compared to Aberdeen) we need to be thoughtful of anyone that goes to the trouble of bringing stuff out to sell. Having said that, we live in a few market and competition is real.

One more thing. Yesterday I "proposed" we bob a deuce. I now withdraw my offer to do this. If someone is crazy enough to do it, I'll help, but it looks like I have talked my wife into coming and my time will be spend entertaining her (which is better than entertaining you guys ;)). Anybody know of a Mall close to the rally site?

Several issues:

Ga has VERY strict rules about raffles and other games of chance. I was approached with several ideas and after researching them, I am not sure what to do. So officially, we (10SSGR mgmt.) are undecided about what we should take part in. I am certainly unwilling to take part in prison.

See Ga.'s rules: Georgia Charitable Raffles

Joe, this is your best bet:

2586-2710 Randolph Church Rd, Union Point, GA 30669 to 3700 Atlanta Hwy, Athens, GA 30606 - Google Maps

That will lead her to:

Clinto,
If you do decide to have a raffle, etc. I would recommend running the idea by the DA in the county. If the DA provides approval, it is most likely OK. I would be nervous doing something like having a raffle in GA without knowing for sure.

I don't want to complicate a great event....maybe the auction is a better idea....the AL chapter of the MVPA does one at their Tannerhill event every year with the proceeds going to the MV museum in Huntsville.

I don't think we would be competing with the vendors on a big scale....they have vendors at the MVPA event and no one complains.....some vendors even contribute items to the auction.

A lot of stuff would be "gag" gifts anyway.....just a fun way to raise a little capital to make the event better next year.

Papa Bear may even give up his spare red tutu.

I think the issue with the raffle is that gambling is very much illegal in GA (no Casinos, no slot machines, no betting on horse races, etc...), and a raffle for an item/items of major value may be considered such.

It was all over the evening news a while back when some folks were running a high stakes poker ring in their basement, only to get raided by cops and the GBI, and thrown in jail.

Clinto...and others. Yes GA is strict on raffles and other "gambling" activities.
HOWEVER...
I seriously doubt that anyone would prosecute a bunch of "good ole boys and girls" for having a good intentioned raffle.

I would however keep very good records on how much money was raised and exactly what it was used for.

And no wreckerman...I cannot donate my Red tutu...MB has declared it NMC due to seam stress!!! She is afraid that one more mission will cause seam failure...and we all know what that means:jumpin:

OH...and since you fired a probing round...I assume the truce is off???[thumbzup]

Errrrrr....doesn't GA have a state lottery? Appearently gambling is only legal when ran by the state.

That was not a hostile move PB....just thought you might want to donate an artifact to the cause.
