Over the weekend I loaded the Military Vehicle Collectors of Colorado's OH58 Kiowa for transport down to the Pueblo Air Museum where it will be well taken care of. Here are some pics and a link to a YouTube video.

Looks good to me. I thought with the boom fully extended it couldn't/shouldn't lift that kind of weight without the heavy lift bars and plate down?

The thing weighed about 1500 lbs as it sat and didn't tax the wrecker at all. Also it was a straight aft lift. We discussed the stabilizers but waved them off.

1500 pounds? A 5 ton axle with tires/ rims on it weighs more than that! Of course the wrecker wasn't taxed! I would have thought that chopper weighed more though.

The Guard guys who loaded it up and delivered it said with all the missing parts mostly heavy radios it weighed about 1500 lbs. Lots of instruments missing also. It does have the turbine engine it. Had I should say, check out what the museum guys did in less than a half a day. Interior and engine completely removed.

That engine would make a great dynamic display. Very compact and light. It didn't have a stater/generator on it when the club got it or we would have put it on a stand our self and tried to start it. Turns freely. The helo was used for a maintenance trainer so all the engine to gearbox shafts were disconnected. Would have been easy for the club to pull it.

Ahh, roger that. Oh, by the way, just wondering if you are the guy in Franktown that has the deuce under that big pole barn with the white star on the top? I used to live in Parker and had friends in Franktown.

No that's not me. I don't remember anyone in the club that had a deuce or 5 ton marked with a star. Might have been here before I got here 14 years ago.

No no, the pole barn had a star or something painted on the front of it just below roof line. It's been a long time though. There was also a wagon or something in a field out front with a flag and flagpole, and I remember. Whoever it was would always put banners on the wagon. My friends were the Scholers, Frank, Stephanie, and their son Kurt. I believe they are into WW2 reinacting now. Totally off subject to the thread, I know, I'm sorry.

There was another one came through Limon last week. The guy pulling it said they were taking it to Washington to restore. He said he would send a video of it when they fly it the first time! Ill post it if I ever get one from him.

So i guess Frank got out of the racecars and into green iron. I grew up with Kurt, but lost contact with all of them years ago. Is Frank a member on here? I would guess that he has some kind of funky old German iron now.
