you dont want to use the "big" filter.. its really close to the exhaust and were made to fit larger trucks and vans. It some times will over heat the oil becuase it is too close, I have seen it a couple times in my shops. You will want to check the dipstick after 6 quarts of oil, I have seen some motors take 6 and some a bit more but alys better to check twice and not have to drain any out.

the large filter was made for the delivery trucks, pannel vans that sort of thing. Trucks with the motors higher off the ground and exhaust that went down a bit befor it crossed over. I have seen some trucks come in with the large filter on ( larger filter better right? ) and the bottom of it is all messed up, paint bubbled and oil burnt. it sure will fit on the block but just not the correct one. A stock type filter is all you need in a light duty truck. I really like the wix but its your choice, just about any filter you can buy will be good enough.

WIX is high quality stuff. Do a search on CK5 or the 'net in general for some of the oil and oil filter tests. The WIX filters always come out on top. FRAM is junk as are some of the generic ones in the stores.
If you can't find a WIX retailer locally hitup NAPA, their Gold line is a rebadged WIX filter.

I have 2000000 miles in different vehicles with Fram filters ... usually two for $5. Mostly V8 Ford HiPerformance motors... never lost one yet... However, I stock all Wix for my MV Friends...cuz they like em...

Good place to read about this sorta stuff:

Another good place to read about lubrication issues in general:

FRAM doesn't score highly with anyone who's done the research on it. There's worse out there but it's not the stuff it used to be. I stear clear of it.

I tried putting the large filter on my truck and you cant even get it to thread on since it hits the crossover pipe. Boy was that fun to find out after filling the filter full of oil.

My spare engine that had the banks turbo on it came with the long filter on, since the banks kit relocates the pipe on that side of the truck. So once the turbo is in, the long filter will be going on.
