Oshkosh XM822E1 Petroleum Laboratory Trailer, Ft. Polk to Central MS (39083)

I need to have a 1991 Oshkosh XM822E1 Petroleum Laboratory Trailer moved from Fort Polk (Leesville, LA 71459) to my farm just west of Hazlehurst, MS 39083. This trailer is 36' long, 8' wide, and 11.75' tall. Maximum gross weight is 32,790 lbs.

It is still full of lab equipment, and is likely to be near the maximum gross weight. The tires appear to be in good shape, and it appears to have the normal sized king pin. I spoke to the GP inspector, and he said that the lights were not tested, but appear to be in good condition. The electrical connection on the trailer is the same as that on the M931.

The distance from Ft. Polk to my farm is 208 miles.

Any recommendations? I am going to Ft. Polk on Thursday to secure the items inside the trailer and to see what else is needed to at least get it off base. If there are other more detailed questions, I can answer them after I get a chance to look it over.

Here are some pics:

Thanks,

I think its only load outs on Friday now. If you can contact your base guy eddie he can help you get it figured out. Take your 931. I will be going from memphis to Lafayette, LA i can give you support if you had issues. It is a hard drive thru natchez to Alexandria but about 3hrs to hazelhurts. Ive driven it alot.

Jeepsinker is in that area and could maybe pickup and hold for ya but i have not seen him lately though

Thanks.

I spoke to Eddie today and I am meeting him at 10:00 on Thursday to get inside the trailer and prep it for the move (there appears to be a lot of loose stuff inside). He said he inspected this trailer himself, and was very helpful.

My 931 is not currently road worthy - I only use it and the other MVs around the farm for now... I really need to work on that!

I'll post an update as I get more information.

It was a long day, but it was worth it... The XM822E1 is now at home on the farm in central MS.

Joey at United States of Freight got me lined up with a RGN trailer and driver and the driver was at the pickup point before noon yesterday. Danny Roshong from Danny Roshong's Garage and Wrecker in Leesville and his tow truck driver, Lynn, did an excellent job pulling the XM822E1 off base and loading it onto the RGN trailer at their location.

Troy, the truck driver, worked hard getting the load ready to go, and we finally made it to my farm just as the sun went down.

I found the contact information for United States of Freight on Steel Soldiers, and I fully recommend them if you need help picking up equipment. They were engaged throughout the whole process, and when things didn't go as well as initially hoped, they were there to work through the issues with the objective of getting the job done.

Danny and Lynn at Roshong's were on top of things from when Lynn met me at the DLA yard, and are highly recommended, as well.

I had also talked to Shelly Rogers at Bar S Towing before contracting with USoF, and I met him at the DLA yard when I went to secure the items in the XM822E1. I would recommend him, as well, particularly for larger loads that require a larger tow truck - the XM822E1 was probably close to the limit on the single axle tow truck.

If you need help getting out of Fort Polk, you can't go wrong with any of these folks...

Nice, I was a 92L in the Army for a while, after school they said these trailers were rare and that we probably would never see one in actual service.
