Piston/Rod assembly Question

Hello,
My M37 engine manual states that the oil holes on the connecting rods should be opposite the slotted side of the pistons, I'm tearing down an original engine and the oil holes are on the same side as the slots in the pistons. Am I misinterpreting the manual?
Thanks and Happy New Year!
