I was just over on the GLS (Gov't Liquidation/Shilling) website checking out a recent sale and figured I would post the following observations. These are my opinions, your mileage may vary

http://cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=744319 This deuce sold for $5475.00. I would at least want a test drive for that price.

http://cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=714901 This one sold for $4711.11. Again, for that money, a test drive please! Who's bidding on this stuff?

http://cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=737368 This is more along the lines of what I would consider. $1375.99 isn't bad!

http://cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=726620 I thought $850.00 for a used engine was a bit high!

http://cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=737383 Here's an interesting truck for $299.00 Looks to have duals 1100x20 G286 tires.

http://cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=738362 Some lucky stiff just got a depot overhaul LDS engine with dyno sheets for $1987.00 from Ft Cartoon. Says its an LDT but has the LDS NSN and has a PS pump.

I personally saw those 2 Fort Gillem trucks when I went a while back (I think there are a few pics on my photobucket acct.) and there is no way they are worth that. The first one for $5475, I was going to bid on, but it went way too high. It's a solid truck with good tires, but it needs EVERYTHING painted. The interior is really faded, it almost looks like it has been out in the elements with the top down. It did start ok, hold air pressure and had decent oil pressure. Clutch and brakes felt ok, but I didn't drive it. I am sorry, but i just don't see that kind of money for a surplus GL deuce.

The second one was about the same (in terms of condition).

Clinto, that thing had an unusual drivers seat. Do you remember anytihng about it? I also like the vice on the front. My pipleine truck came from DRMO with the vice up there. I'll do the exact same with my deuce wrecker. It's a nice truck but not that nice. That rocker rust scares me too!

I remember it having 2 spring seats, but nothing unusual about the driver's seat.

That rocker rust, eh, I'd prefer not to deal with it, but being a Mopar guy, I am intimately familiar with rust!

Hmmmmm....that does look funny, but I don't remember it. Must not have noticed. Had a limited amount of time available that day for recon. Was trying to look at a lot of stuff in a short mount of time.

But those brackets look weird, for sure.

Hmm, I was once told that you could mount HEMTT seats in a deuce. Might have to check out a HEMTT here soon.

Kenny:

You forgot to mention that GLS has raised the starting bids too. Also, the pictures they show are not necessarily whats up for bid (as I found out the hard way :( ). I will no longer bid on anything from them unless I can get to see it for myself.

Recovery, I totally agree and don't know who is buying these trucks...
I bid on the most expensive one at Ft. Gillem but quit at $3k.

The one that sold for $1300.00+ was even too expensive for me in it's condition...

I can't seem to forget the good old days when $2k would get you the pick of the litter.....Drove a few out of Anniston for much less!

Guys:

When I got the Frog, there was one up near me (deuce, not a frog), in Sparta, WI. It had no trans, the engine was toast, and the body had MAJOR cancer. After ya add tax and bidders fee, it went for over $3K. But if ya stop and think, how much are they goin for on ePay? Spendin $4 or $5K is almost cheaper. Then ya add shipping costs. By the time a guy is finished on ePay (youPay we allPay), he's got $10-$12K invested. Then he has to pay to get it running. Electrical stuff. Body work. He has a Super MAJOR investment. aua Of course you realize, that drives the prices up across the board, just like with the WW II vehicles.

Hi does anybody have an idea as to why dueces are going so high on GL. Are busineses buying them up? or just a bunch of people with fat wallets and nothing else to spend thier money on?? Can't they spend it on a Yacht or something else! Iv'e been shopping for quite sometime and can't figure it out

I think (and I'm not alone) that GL is engaging is some skullduggery and shill bidding prices up. I think they are artificially inflating the price.

Clinto, I believe your right! Lots of all kinds are going for really stupid prices. I think a employee some where is bumping the bids. I've seen lots go crazy on the bids and then a month later the same lot is forsale again. I think when the bid gets too rich the real bidder bows out and GL is stuck with the lot. So they just repost it.

Re: Ken

Totally 110% agreed. I have seen the same trucks go 2,3, sometimes 4 times. Can't be that many deadbeat bidders.......

The winch and bed cover is probably responsible for shooting the prices up on those trucks, there were a lot of other ones in the same lot that didn't have those fancy extras that probably would have been a better deal

I disagree Ugg. I bought my duece from Ebay...for 4k and drove it home.
Excellent condition,300 miles and not a peep. The deals are out there.....you just have to be an informed, educated shopper......and....know how to spot a crook.

Maybe this is fodder for a new topic (and if anyone thinks so, feel free to plaigiarize my links and words) but we talk about rising prices, ebay and it's effects, etc.

Let's see some recent trucks that sold on ebay (sold, not unsold).

And forewarning: More than one of these trucks were being sold, or bought by Steel Soldiers members, so be nice when replying

Here is a really nice looking M35A2 winch truck that met it's reserve and sold for $5K. The buyer left positive feedback for the seller, so everyone must have been happy:

Here is another very nice truck that met it's reserve and sold for $5,100.

Here is an interesting story, a nice deuce, which listed and sold the first time for $4200, only to be relisted a week or so later and sold for $6,600.

First auction:

Second auction:

Here is a winch truck for $5,800
