Right rear seat top cover plate not fitting M1097A2

Hello all. I'm having issues with the fitment of the right rear seat top cover plate on my m1097a2. The left and right seat box measure exactly the same and I have a left top cover plate that fits the left box but my right rear top cover plate is a quarter inch too wide between the detents that stop it from sliding left to right when secured on top of the box. Because of this width, the plate will not fit down onto the box properly. Between the two detents measures 15 and 3/4 which is a quarter inch to wide to sit down in the box. The left plate measures 15 and 3/16 which fits perfectly in the left box. Is there supposed to be a width difference in the boxes which would call for the right plate to be wider between the detents? The boxes are nice and square with no damage.

Thank you in advance

I contacted the seller (which is a major reputable website that I have dealt with a few times before) because I thought it was stamped wrong but he said that all of his stock is the same and that they have sold many of them with no complaints. The latches line up correctly. I thought of grinding the 1/4" off but I hate doing that to a brand new part. I'd rather just have it correct from the factory. Do you have one and if so, can you measure between your detents to see what you come up with, left and right side? Are the different measurements? I'd greatly appreciate it if you could. This would just confirm what the seller told me.

Thank you for your response.

Yeah that's my real question I guess...do I need to trim the lip on the seat box or has the seller given me an out of spec part that I need to reorder? Any one out the feel like measuring the top cover plate and reporting back? Much appreciated...
Are you talking about the heavier plates for the rear seats? If so what measurements?
I believe you have already answered the question, if the seat bases are the same then the seat plates should be the same, (only in reverse of course) you know the bases are factory and it is likely the bases are re-pops, you said " major reputable website" but you did not say whom it was, there are many sellers but only 2-3 that you would be sure of getting factory parts, Kascar and HPG is another otherwise more sell a mix of factory and re-pops and or just Chicom stuff.
I would say that if it seems to be a quality part and just a little grinding will make it work AS intended then grind away, otherwise you would need to return it and look at another seller

I have one re-pop drivers side and one re-pop passenger side mounted
They both fit just fine.
The drivers side repop measures 15 1/2" and the passenger side repop measures 15 3/4"

I also have a loose GI passenger side.
The GI passenger side also measures 15 3/4" same as the repop

This has got me stumped. The repops fit on my truck and they match the GI part with the 1/4" difference.
The box opening dimensions are identical as well. 15" tapering to 16 1/4" and 12 1/2" front to back

I wonder if your passenger side storage box is a little caved in making the opening too narrow. Ive had to straighten those a few times to get the lid to fit.

Thank you DREDnot. That's the exact information I was looking for. Not sure why the measurements of the top plate is different on the right and left but I guess that's the way it is design? With this information, I won't return the plate looking for one that matches that doesn't exist. The storage box top ledges are straight and square but maybe one is bent to wide. The trimming I'll need to do will be on the box, not the top plate.

Thank you again
