Rockwell Axle top plate question.

I will not be able to open my pdf manuals until I get home, something I didn't think I would need just to deal with a leaking top plate. In the picture the screw driver is pointing to a threaded hole that is not totally covered by the top plate. It leaks, a lot. Am I supposed to have a plug in that? What is supposed to keep that from leaking?

Ahhh, the cover isn't symmetrical, it is a little wider on one side than the other. I think I answered my own question. It got spun around at some point and I just kept putting it back on like I found it and being frustrated at the leak I couldn't stop. Brain fart.

EDIT: Nope it was just my gasket that made that one side look wider. I might have to take another apart if I can't figure out what is supposed to be filling that hole. Makes me worry I will just end up with two leaking axles...

Look at one of the other axles to see what's there, they are all the same.

Alright some lawn-side sleuthing uncovered the issue. When I tightened it down the gasket on that side slid inward about an 1/8th of an inch leaving that hole covered only by RTV with no backing. That is why it held for a few 100 miles or so then started leaking. Gear oil worked its way under the RTV and the axle pressure pushed it out. I think with some RTV grey, a wider gasket and more drying time before installation we will have this licked.
