i would say so. if the sending unit looks like that then the tank is probably pretty bad too. dont forget to check/clean it.
That´s what I just finished 15 min. ago.
Now I just let it sit for a day (90-95 F), after that I am going to take a vacuum cleaner and fabricate some narrower hose to it, to get all the gravel and rust out.
I got the tank down from under the truck, I can reuse the straps and bolts and the screws to the sending unit.
Connected the sending unit to the wires under the truck, raised the lever with the float to top level and the gauge went the same way :) .
Cool when stuff still works.
Fabricated another float to the lever (wich was rusted halfway, so had to make a new lever to hold the float), but now all is ready to go back in, just have to wait for the tank to dry up, and get the rust and dust out of it.
I used wide 4 ton nylon straps (the ones you secure heavy truck loads with), to hold the tank up while loosening the bolts instead of a jack.
With only 4-5 gallons left in it, I only had to loosen one strap a little bit to let the tank slide down, 1 person job.

Anyone know where I can get just the gasket? I had to swap tanks and have a good, working sending unit on hand.

Omix-Ada sells one for the Early CJ5/M38a1 that looks like the same one, but I don't wanna spend the money on it and find out that it's the wrong size/pattern.
