Any options out there like the Rhino tire carrier? Seems they're hard to come by now. Has anyone fabricated their own? (Besides the horrible ones I've seen for sale on ebay)

There are several alternatives that are "stock" if you're willing to pay.

There's one that is like an upside-down U that goes over the tailgate and the tire bolts on the outside.

There's another that mounts to the bed. HPG has that one:

Both are available on the evil auction site periodically.

I agree that the home-built ones generally look terrible. What I have right now is a home-built take-off from a civilian H1 that I got for $150. But I'm definitely looking for other options.

The big advantage of the Rhino carrier (IMO) is the ratcheting lift/lowering assist. With run-flats, HMMWV tires are some heavy mothers, and lifting them onto (or off of) a spare carrier is really a chore. I was working alone when I was mounting my spare on the carrier I have and it was extremely difficult to muscle that thing on there, get the pin through it, and put the lug nut on.

There are two other swing away tire carriers made for the HMMWV other then the Rhino.
The one made by IBES TEK also raises and lowers the tire to the ground but I believe it uses a cable to do it .
And the original design used on the civilian H1 . But that required you lifting the tires on and off the mounting bracket . The only plus with that style also had a 2 can swing away fuel can carrier for the drivers side of the rear air lift bumper.
