STE/ICE is Simplified Test Equipment/Internal Combustion Engine. It is a computerized test set that provides a multitude of test readings on most Army vehicles used over the last 30 - 40 years. It will provide diagnostic information on nearly everything from the Deuce to M1A1 tanks. Many of the newer vehicles, such as the CUCVs, HUMMVS. Abrams and Bradleys have a built in diagnostic connector that provides power to the STE/ICE and connects it to transducers and sensors built into the vehicle. For older vehicles, such as the deuce, the STE/ICE comes with a suite of transducers, adapters and cables that permit the measurement of nearly every parameter from oil pressure, RPM. compression and even tire pressure. These insturements originally cost $7K - $8K. If you find one with all of the cables, adapters and transducers expect to pay at least $450 for it. This instrument must have been superseded by new equipment in the last two years because a large number of them have been auctioned off in the last 18 months or so.
