I think it was because I have adblock turned off for this site and it's sandwiched between banner ads so my eyes just skip over it as another ad. It's a really common UX issue and one I've run into for myself quite a few times before. Usually actively looking helps, but it's basically in a "don't bother to look here" field which can make that difficult.

I wonder if the military ever experimented with with covering tanks in billboards as urban camo? I might need to bring that up with someone...
