Lately, at least one major truck refurbisher has been taking the T-1138 cases out of 939 type trucks and retrofitting the 800-type T-138 case into them. This results in a much lower speed but also higher off-road reliability, especially in low reverse behind the Allison, for trucks being shipped out of country to remote areas to be used in forest.
This may not mean a sudden surplus of T-1138 cases for those considering 800- series retrofits for higher speed over the road. It may mean a higher level of supply for the military when they need a case for a 939 type truck. The cost of a used T-1138 case is not expected to decline.
