Bedliner the floor. That should stop rust issues from the top. Then either throw the insulation or dynamat down on that and put the vinyl or carpet over that.

Best use of a CUCV is add big tires and use it for what it was made for...hauling stuff slow over rough terrain. If you want a modern truck capable of 80mph and comfartable, buy one... A CUCV has great heavy duty Detroit locked low geared axles perfect for big tires and offroading...trying to use one for daily driving duties on the fwy is a waste. you almost might as well DD a deuce.

Yeah. I should have said "with stock tires". That whole post was pretty disjointed. I traveled all day yesterday on 4 hours of sleep. Sorry.

I dig the heck out of your truck. Nice and cheap, simple and useful as long as you're not a namby-pamby. Did you bedline/dynamat it?

Sidenote : How much do they weigh? Got a couple sitting around an never weighed them. Around 5-6k?

I'm DavidB from CK5, formerly K10A'sBROinSLO...if you remember me from there and I haven't said so before. I know a guy with a CUCV with the "service" body on it and the generator/compressor inside. Can't remember the mil designation for it. He uses it for a tow rig for his Jeep, I keep trying to get him to put some 11.00 16s on it using your truck for an example. YOu see them around anymore? I had some on my Dodge and when they wore out I had to change to 325/85/16 XMLs from hundreddollarman...I think I actually like the XMLs better. I thought mileage would suffer but they seem to have less rolling resistance. Contact patch is pretty narrow for such a wide tire due to the rounded profile, even on 10" wide wheels. My dodge is a hopped up Cummins with a NV4500....trying to launch in 2nd is a joke, just spins 'em. Once you get it rolling you can roll into the throttle in 3rd and it scoots purty good. Hoping to put a powertrax in the D80 in the back to help with the traction.

I have two dodges with cummmins, though '95 & 97 seem like new trucks to me. I also have 3 1028s and 4 1008s . I am already a little deaf from a career that involves chain saws , chippers, rock cutting and diesel equipment... Quiet is good. I will be trying out some different combos of non rust promoting noise mitigation. I welcome more suggestions, and will post any results...... Another gear would quiet things down , but I could only afford to do that to one truck, besides I have my flashy new 97 Dodge for the freeway.

I agree '95 is newish (mine is).The pre '94s are stronger, cheaper, simpler, and UGLIER.

I haven't bedlinered it or anything yet. Recent election results have made me increase my activities in other hobbies and the vehicles are just being maintained for a while. Don't think anyone's going to ban my trucks and 4x4's for a while.

The 11.00R16's are out there but they aren't as cheap or common like they used to be. I have a recurring search on Ebay for "11.00 16" and a decent amount of them turn up. Some at fairly good prices too. There's a place in SoCal that always seems to have a set or two up for sale. After that there's always a set or two coming up now and then in random places. Also try searching for "Hummer tires", "LAV tires", "military tires", etc as some folks don't know what to call them or what they were used for or even the size.
