Tire chains

When you need um, nothing compares to tire chains in mud and snow. We got 28" of snow right now and I've seen 1 ton 4x4 get stuck (lots of them) and little Lexas suvs with chains go driving by them. As far as putting them on, check this out. http://www.chainuptool.com/page0006.html Seems like a good idea and you could easily bend your own up. Here is a videolink as well. http://www.chainuptool.com/page0005.html For temporary chain use, like getting unstuck, just run some pre cut lengths of chain around the tire and through the rim and attach the chain to itself. http://www.tirechain.com/emergencychainhd1.htm

Well, now I'm ready for NEXT winter... I've now managed to get chains for six single 9.00 x 20 tires, and they weigh a ton. Any input/thoughts about which size of ammo can a pair would best fit in for storage? I've currently got four chains in a five gallon bucket, and I may be following Wreckerman to the infirmary if I move them in that manner again. Oof!

Oh, chain installation thoughts -

At the fire station, they've taken a 6"x6" post that's about four feet long and planed a 24" ramp off of one end. Roll the inner dual up the ramp onto the flat spot and (quickly!) chain up while the outer tire is off of the ground.

I won't be going to Aberdeen now. Too much that needed to happen didn't and too much that didn't need to happen did :(

I bet someone in the convoy would love to haul these heavy things up there. Ironically they have all attended the show twice. It seems nobody is interested in snow chains in May. We'll see what we can do as the date gets closer.
