Trans air shift/sprag setup on M812

2nd question asking about air shift for the transfer case located on top of the transmission.

My truck is currently blowing air out of the vent tube while in neutral. When I put the truck in reverse the air leaks go away. I did spray a soapy water spray over the assy. and I had bubbles coming out of the gaskets also.

The air shift assy. on top of the tranny is approx $200 for Memphis Equipment. Any tricks to installing this setup?

Is there a way to bypass this setup altogether? Could you install a manual valve in the air line that you can switch on when you want?

What exactly does this air shifter accomplish on top of the trans? If I unhook it completly what would happen? Thanks,

Andy

You can remove the air supply from the side of the valve assembly, but you will have no front drive, transfer will be in neutral. One of the guys on this board has a 5 ton with a Mopar V8 with a manual transfer shifter setup.
Try to tighten the 4 small screws around each valve on top of the shifter. Ours were loose on the water truck and leaked air all the time.

Orings inside are leaking too... take it apart.. it is just a switch.. If you are are a redneck, just put a vise grip on the air input line... the rubber one... to the switch and you can drive for the next ten years in 6 X 4 with no problem.
