Can anyone give me correct part number for the transmission filter? I have a 2005--- M1114 with 4 speed overdrive. Also what should i use as fluid in trans and transfer case?
Also read something about adding Lubegaurd Red ATF Protectant with the trans fluid. Thanks to all of you for your help!

This should be the NSN 4330-01-496-5720.
And it is the transmission OIL filer... you not filtering the transmission ;-)
Dextron III is prescribed as ATF.
In my opinion, no additives or special oils are needed.

I have used the Lubegard Shudder fix on the A8 GM tranny for other problems on another platform and it did work. But just use straight ATF here.

A couple of pointers.

  • If you don't have a pan with a drain, which you should, now is the time to add one!
  • I could not find any Dextron 3, so I used what was readily available, which was Dexron 6 and no problems.
  • I think the civi filter is identical but I am sure someone will chime in that is not the case. Compare them and see if the HUMVEE Tax is worth it.
  • The gear box uses the same tranny fluid, as the cooling system goes through both.

While it is true the transmission coolant goes through the transfer case they do not mix, unless the cooler in the transfer case is bad then you will have other problems, so you can use different fluids in each, IE DEX VI in the trans and DEX III in the transfer case, Personally I use DEX III in all three HMMWV applications, trans, transfer, steering as it keeps things simple and some folks have had issues with DEX VI in the steering system

Eric Hummer H1 just capped that transfer case cooler.

He has almost 300,000 miles, including Death Valley in the Summer. Guess it’s ok
