LOL - I had heard that the U-2 pilot could get plenty of rest between moments of sheer panic.

Many of them completed missions up to, but NOT including the landing. That's the trickiest part of the flight envelope and the reason for a wingman in a chase car to talk them onto the runway. As the wings get close to the gound, the "ground effect" can push the plane back up into the air.... they have to literally FORCE the plane onto the gound.

Awesome LIFT potential ! ! !

The aircraft flies at the " coffin corner ".... a few knots too slow, she'll stall. A few knots too fast, she'll fall apart. 2000 hrs in one type/model/series is a bu$% ton of flight time.

Yah..Ive talked to a few pilots out here that fly them, and a few of the "ground car" guys...Ive asked em if I could go along sometime with them in those fancy gov't corvettes...what an awesome ride that would be...hauling butt down the runway just under and behind a U-2 talking him down..would be amazing in my book.
