Very Dim Gen2 light on idle

When my truck is idling the Gen2 light comes on very very dim. I can only see it at night, but it goes away with any bit of gas pedal. It's not a full glow, like on start up. It's afterward and a very faint glow.

Any ideas?

That's normal, RPM's are to low, or it's just the nature of your gen. If you put a different generator in your truck it might not do it, nothing to worry about. Even alternators need a certain rpm in order to kick it into charging.

put a vom on each battery and see what it says while running. dont know what the threshold for the light is but i bet one is below 13.5 or so. i would also load test the batteries or switch them around. thanks. mark

Batteries were put in new late December, and I just had all 3 belts replaced. So I will check the RPMs on idle and tweak it if need be.

where is your volt meter when running? should be solidly in the green when both alternators are energized. if you loose one alternator the needle will drop to the yellow-green line. thanks. mark

I would bet its your regulator inside the alternator . . . I just had a similar problem with my Gen 1 light barely coming on then going out then coming back on. My dad took it to his buddy's shop, replaced the regulator and problem solved. I suggest taking to an alternator specialist shop, who you trust

Mine did the same, then got worse (visible in the daylight, sometimes solid red), then the gen failed. Installed a rebuilt gen1, one year later it started again, dim at first then worse, has not failed yet but I fear it's demise is eminent...

Try this. I had a similar issue and this resolved it.
