I wanted to share an awesome experience from an event called Veterans Appreciation Day at North Warren Regional High School. This is an event that the school promotes every year for Veterans in the local area.I found out about it at the Memorial Day Parade which I also attended on this past Sunday, and was asked to bring my M925.

So I head out early this morning. When I arrived at the North Warren H.S., I was surprised to see a line of MV's.I parked my 925 and walked down to introduce myself to a group of NJ National Guard soldiers. After chatting a while, I went inside the school to sign in and get a name tag.I was invited to sit in on the end of a tribute to Veterans in the school auditorium. The students did an awesome job of honoring local Veterans, with a student band performing 60's music to honor all Vietnam Veterans. Two students also told the school and Veterans present about their trip to Washington, DC in April of this year. The trip was organized by the school and students volunteered to accompany Veterans to visit the War Monuments in DC.The trip was free for the Veterans, many of whom had never been to visit the War Memorials (WW2, Korean War, and Vietnam Memorial and Wall).

Following the program, the school provided a wonderful lunch spread for the Veterans.Of course, they invited the Veterans to go the front of the chow line.Students than escorted the Veterans to tables and we all sat down to lunch.Nice to see young men and women interacting with Veterans of all ages, from Present day to World War 2.The kids were respectful and really did an excellent job listening to the Veterans as they sat and talked over lunch.

After lunch the students made their way over t0 check out the static display of vehicles and military hardware.Vehicles included several 5 Ton M939 Series vehicles, a 7 Ton towing a 155 field gun, an LMTV, and a HUMVEE.What a great job North Warren did with this event and sponsoring the Vets Trip to Washington!I was honored to attend and I applaud the school administrators, teachers, kitchen staff, and the student body. They really made the 50-75 Veterans in attendance today feel good.As I stated earlier, I was impressed by their interest, the respect the kids showed to the Veterans, and the appreciation for service and sacrifice.Great job North Warren H.S. I encourage any local Veterans or Military Vehicle owners to attend this event next year, you will be glad you did.

John

Thanks for sharing that! It's good to see that some young people respect our veterans and understand the sacrifices they made for our country. :D

John, I can see why you were so lit up about the event. Glad it was such a great day not only for you but for the others in attendance. Should happen more places, more often.
