1 is operators level 2 is unit level support 3 is general support and 4 is depo level. you take a manual that says xxxx-xxx-24 that book will cover every thing from unit level maintenance to depo level a standard xxxx-xxx- 20 is only unit level support. A lot of generators and small equipment have 14 series manual that cover every thing from operators to depo.

In the TM9 series manuals the -10 manual contains information an operator would need to have. operation instructions, road speeds, capacities, weights

The -20 series manuals are generally for troubleshooting. Flow charts, special tools, diagnosing starting, cooling, electrical or shifting problems

The -24P manuals are the parts manuals

The -34 manuals are repair manuals for specific assemblies like alternators, how to replace a head assembly or a wiper motor, etc They also include more specific troubleshooting information

The TB9 series manuals all end in -35-x and are specific installation manuals. How to install a specific piece of equiment like a radio or GPS into a particular model HMMWV

MWOs are Maintenance Work Orders that have detailed information for vehicle modifications or retrofits like installing seatbelts or airlift bumpers or dual pull brakes.

Major components like engine and transmission have seperate dedicated manuals of their own.

The -40 depot level manuals are the hardest to find and go into detailed repair and overhauls. For instance, they will tell you how to replace the diodes in the alternators where the -30 manual will just tell you to replace the rectifier plate. A lot of their diagnostics and troubleshooting assumes you have very specialized test equipment that most of us will never see so they are marginally useful to us in the field.
