Replace the Harmonic Balancer on the 09, didn't get the power steering belt tight enough, so I will have to go back tomorrow after what I found on here today.

I finally got my 5/4 up and running. Replaced the transmission , torque converter , trans cooler, both U-joints to the drive shaft, , Vacuum pump and CDR valve. Its nice to be behind the wheel again. My Next project will be the fuel system.

I also made an civy trailer adapter, because my old 7 wire plug did not work anymore.
This was because of my offroading a few weeks back. So disconnected the whole 7 wire plug.

From a buddy I got an old trailer plug with a length of cable on it and a 7wire civy plug.
Them is was only a matter of finding the 4 wires needed and connecting them.

Voila, an adapter from 12 pin to 7 pin, with a little extra lenght of cable.
Here in Europe, we don't have the 4pin connectors. For the more recent 14pin connectors here, I am getting an 7 to 14 adapter.

Also bought a Lund moonvisor, that is going on later this week. Only need to make it camo, to match the M1028.

Just got my m1009 painted using the Hd paint. Installed the LMC HD headlight harness. I'm thinking I have a bad ground though, the passenger side light is really dim. As for the paint, its holding up really well considering the extreme cold here. After paint, the whole truck was hot oil'd to protect from further rust issues that have been repaired. She looks new again!

Put this light mast together for my torch cart. Still tweaking the details but I think it's going to be quite useful around the house and for camping and rallies. Lights are right at 16' and I can have it up or down in a minute or two.

Today I replaced both front outer axle u-joints on one of my M1009's. It would continue to turn what ever direction you went last and then go the other way after you over corrected the direction of travel. The left was locked up solid and chewed the inside of the locking hub to scrap. I had the long axle with the short end in the vise and hung on the long end and it held me and my son with out moving. I pressed them out and pressed new ones back in. I used grease able ones this time. Not a bad run for 31 years. While in there I repacked the wheel bearing. Man I like the new stuff with the sealed bearings. I have newer trucks with over 200 K and they still have the OEM sealed wheel hubs. Packing wheel bearings is not on my favorite to do thing. But it works on these old CUCV's just fine. Just a messy job.

More deer damage repairs

I currently have 1 of the KC HID Dayliters out in Arizona for repairs. The ballast was bad. I wanted to get it repaired because I had to remove the bumper and brush guard to repair the plastic grille after the deer impact. I had tried making a steel grille in the past but it always ended up being to heavy and then it looked odd. I repaired the OEM 001.jpg002.jpg003.jpg004.jpg005.jpg006.jpg007.jpggrille with urethane glue and 1/8" rivets. It came out well enough for me. I am not restoring this truck I am repairing it in the field for road duty again. Today after a day in the field I sanded the front bumper and primed it and repainted it. It lasted 5 years since I painted it and 30K miles so I think it will go another 5 years with the effort I put into it today. Picture time. Are you ready? Or are you tired of my pictures? You always said my posts are worthless with out pictures. Here we go. This unit used to have the punisher skull on the door. But I noticed everyone and their brother played that Punisher part. So I re-stenciled mine with the Pearl jam Crown of Thorns. They are my favorite group and I liked the look. Very fitting for this battle scarred USMC M1009. Remember I build these on a zero budget and Did no dent repairs. It is the patina that I like the most. I have Line X-ed the entire interior. It is an all stock everything M1009 that I had for the past 12 + - years and it just keeps chugging away.

When I did the LMC upgrade I used an abrasive wheel to grind paint off on core support,then used self tappers with star washers to attach new grounds.Worked well.And your rig looks great in new paint,saw it last weekend.Hopefully can get mine out of the red paint soon.

Please remember I am not restoring this M1009. It is a Combat Utility Carrier. Not a museum piece. I remember back in the day when a rep from GM said these are CUCV's that are being built. Combat Utility carriers. That was 30 years ago. Now it came to be that it meant Commercial utility carrier. I always liked Combat better. Be that as it may it is still on duty but resting at this time. I received the KC Dayliter back today and they completely rebuilt it and the best part N/C. They ask if I would send the partner back to them for updating. I called and they explained that they improved the light since this one was made and would update my other light at N/C also. I told them I had to think about it. For 5 seconds. The partner was in the box the first one came out of and on its way to Arizona. Good Luck with your projects. Just did the Doghead starter relay MOD done in 20 mins.. nothing went wrong but I'm having the starter rebuilt and just for pice of mind.... Paint comes in a day or so and she will be painted to 3 color again and green inside

Brace d side.jpgWarn Winch 3.jpg I welded the winch plate to the brush guard and bolted braces from the frame to the rear of the winch mounting plate. I did have to remove one of the horizontal braces from the brush guard and a small amount off the top of the bumper.

Tried to replace the visco clutch for the fan, cause it is broken and wobbly.
Got a new (used) clutch at a parts store a few days ago, guess what, it doesn't fit..
The bolts on the clutch are to big for the fan and the end that goes on the engine is to small..
They told me it was for a diesel, me thinks it's for a gasser..
Next week back to the parts store with the original one I just pulled off..

Oh well, it keeps me busy, but I want to drive my toy.:-(
