What is this on the driver fender of M38A1??

I came across this on the web and can't figure out what is on the drivers fender. Any ideas??

I have never seen one of those before, worked on them for years in the Canadian Army, but it looks vaguely like a brake booster. Maybe at some time someone got tired of manual brakes and decied to install a vacuum style brake booster to make that M38 have power brakes. Like I said maybe...

My guess is an aftermarket hydrovac for "power" brakes

It does look like it has brake lines hooked to it. Seems the best fit.
