I am posting this to help remove some of the confusion on which frame goes to which tent and to save folks from making a costly mistake. A lot of us have gotten the NOS skins for TENT, FRAME-TYPE, EXPANDABLE, 16 FT ×16 FT, (also called Frame,Expandable FWWMR,Lightweight) and have had trouble finding the frame. Several members of the site have been asking me if a, (NSN8340-01-239-7001) Milspecs MIL-F-44251, 483 OD green 8ft tent frame section w/sectionalized feature http://www.tentnet.org/tentnet/basecamp/TEMPER/8340012397001.html is for the 16X16 or can it be made to work. The short answer is no, those arch sections are for the (TEMPER) TENT, EXTENDABLE, MODULAR, PERSONNEL which have a span of 20.5'. The purlins and the header that come in NSN8340-01-239-7001 will work on either tent with out modification.

The next question I get is why, as they look the same. I had a bunch of them and thought like you that they could be modified to fit the 16x16. They could be, but the labor and time involved makes it for me, a no-go. Every part of the temper arch needs to be modified, each joint needs to have the rivets removed the span shortened then re-drilled, re-riveted then 6 new purlin slots need to be mirror cut on both sides of the arch and if they are off 1/16" it won't work. The only part of the arch that doesn't need work is the foot and bottom purlin slots on the bottom of each side. With this being said if you have the skill and equipment to do the modification it can be done.2cents

As A side note for some reason the DLA/DRMO has been coding a lot of the 16x16 frames as demil scrap, it is not GL that is doing it. Here are a couple of links for more info on either one of the tents

I appreciate you posting this information, but what is the correct MIL number for the frame for the 16x16 tent frame, MIL-F-43695 or NSN 8340-00-234-4708 which are the same thing I believe.

temper frame with 16.jpg

guess I just took the easy or lazy way, just cut about 20 inches at orange arrows, from the folding leg, move the header down an drilled for pins, and I did get the header un-even like the cave painting shows. also the yellow arrows point to the amount that the other leg should be shortened. so kept the foot , and all slots . Not the correct way for sure, As MW says 6 new purlin slots need to be mirror cut on both sides of the arch and if they are off 1/16" it won't work, was not about to get into that kind of , thought about cutting in middle and use an arch insert to join the leg back. 2cents I did get my stuff back before 2006 though

garwhal21 for some weird reason there is not a FSN for a complete frame, it is broke down to two major assy. #1 the FSN you put up 8340 234 4708 is for a end section which is one arch 8340-00-566-7394 , five purlins 8340-00-238-9806 , one header 8340-00-556-7397 you would also need #2 Frame end section 8340 234 4708 which is two arches 8340-00-238-9806, five purlins 8340-00-238-9806 and two headers 8340-00-556-7397 .
They do have a FSN 8340-00-782-3232 for a complete green tent that includes everything including floors http://www.tentnet.org/tentnet/basecamp/fte/16x16TYI.pdf, and Fsn 8340-01-505-8656 for a complete desert tan tent. This link http://www.tentnet.org/tentnet/basecamp/fte/ftenew.htm shows all the various configurations including FSN for the 16X32.

glassk just checking but it looks like in the picture you tent skin is kinda floating above ground do the ends lace up tight and how does it do in rough weather?

The Technical Manual for this tent is TM 10-8340-220-23P

Yes , the bottom is the part I didn't cut the frames, also the right side doesn't have an end, have not really used the tents except for storage not camping, the bottom leg needs about a foot cut from the middle and that would keep feet and purins in place and would work , I just have not because Now I have enough Temper

just for storage, for things like those Chem inserts and the MGPT they go in, sorry to ramble ------ cutting the tops , moving the header and then cutting the lower leg and they should work just like the regular frames,

any chance of two roof caps for the Mod command post tents, have two sets of frames 11 x 11 and walls just without the caps,

You might also check with Bobby ('streamline' here) about the command post tents. He's had several, and may have some extra tops.

Thanks, checked in June and Bobby said didn't have any, was headed to Ft Jackson and would have been lucky and on the way,..:-D
