winch for my m1028

i have a ramsey dc200 winch that is 12volt. my question, is if i mount a 12v battery on the driverside under the hood to run it will it work? or do i have to spend the $300 for the 24v motor?

just tap of the 12v side of the truck for positive, and run the ground strat to the frame?
