Winch - I have a 5 Ton on my Deuce, need to 'right size'

My truck came with a 5 Ton non-operational winch, pump etc was never fitted. I want to remove the beast and fit the correct winch. I have the PTO but no drive shaft.

Looking at the pictures, is this a 5 Ton bumper or messed up 2.5 Ton?

Other than the correct winch and drive shaft, any guess on what else I will need?

Oh no offense on the 'hack job' comment, it just seems a real cluster of parts.

I would even settle taking off all the crap and putting a bumper back on. Looks like the bumper was welded (badly) I might add.

May be I can trade the 5 Ton for a 2.5 ton setup.

Thanks.

The bumper is the original 2.5ton and looks to be in good shape.
The weldings were done on the structural mounting plates, only. Those could be fixed or replaced. (Upper ones for the winch trucks come with 1/4" spacers welded in place.)
The Deuce (welded style) frame extensions are there (2x!)
Assuming the PTO has the drive flange and is not installed yet.

So the missing parts list would be something like this:
  • (1) Deuce front winch assy, 10.000lbs
  • (2) Winch mounting brackets, (LH & RH)
  • (12) winch mounting bolts, shouldered.
  • (1) set of 4, replacement plates, for those welded ones (eventually)
  • Driveshaft assy, Multifuel, (w/ correct shear pin!)
  • Shifter & linkage, lockplate, dataplate, for PTO
  • (6) PTO mounting studs, gaskets as shims
  • Correct mounting hardware & small parts (listed here: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showt...euce-winch-mounting-bolt-list.html#post769911

To me, the way that front winch and iron looks, I would not want to put a LOT of LOAD on it, I can see it leaving the truck behind

LOL - No winch left behind, gotta love that thought!

I do know when the owner prior to me recovered the truck the whole mess on the front basically 'fell off' as it was held on by a few self tap screws and number plate size fasteners.

I just want to either put it back to wo/w of w/w but properly.

If selling the 5 ton eases the pain all the better.

Why in the heck do people feel the need to use the full roller fairleads on 20K Garwoods when they try to put them on the front?!? Pull that crap off and shorten it up! Pay attention, winch better and do an install job that looks good. I'd hack that off and start over.

:ditto:Like your thinking, I would love an M816 but need to get a CDL don't think there is any way around that.

Right now trying to get the Deuce up to snuff.
