My windshield appears to have been scratched by something. If I called an autoglass place would they be able to replace it or is this a donor vehicle item?

You might try cleaning it with clay bar and then possibly polishing it. I have seen them scuffed from lousy wiper blades. On a nice warm day you can push the old one out. You will want to reuse the seal so be careful. The new one will push in and you can use a string to go around and work it all the way in. I posted a vid of one we did here.

Some auto glass companies can do this for you. If you can snag the scratch with a fingernail it's likely too deep to polish out but light ones can be.
