The original Operation Uvda took place on the beginning of march 1949.
Operation Uvda - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It was an epic jurney, as far as the vehicles are concerned, because there were no roads for vehicles in the Negev at the time, and the route was found and marked only days before the actual operation.

We've decided to drive on its path, with old MVs, including one 1942 GP, two M601s made in the late sixties - one was made in Israel and the other American, one ex-military 1973 wagoneer, one ex-military 1966 Landrover, and an Italian 1982 Fiat campagnola.

The path crosses the negev desert on some very rough roads, and we took the whole of it, from Beer Sheva to Eilat, without any shortcuts. It took us three days of driving.

It was amazing to see how there oldtimers looks just right in the desert. as if it is the way things should be - old MVs and the desert. the weather was right, the vehicles were right, the people were right and the path was right - the ingredients for an exellent jurney.

Asaf what does this translate to, mine warning? Nice photos, Jim

Usually it is the firing zone warning sign, a sign we know very well because most of our off road trips go through these zones (on "dry" days)....
on our website we use the same graphics to warn people not to do the things we do (sort of disclaimer)...
