Would EcoHubs benefit from reprogramming Allison shift points?

Yeah, a couple of times. Didn't really change anything. The system also does it automatically over time, but I spent 5 days offroad and it sure didn't autotune😅 The gear ratio between 2nd and 3rd is just too wide and there is no fixing that, but if I could get it to go into 3rd at a lower rpm, that sure would be helpful. If Alison could change the programming on my wtecIII, that would be awesome.
Allison can change the programing. I'm about to have some programing done to the TCM in my A1R. Happy to provide contact info for the Allison distributor/service center I'm dealing with. I'm in Norcal too and the Allison distributor I'm dealing with is in Hayward, so depending on where you are, you could pay them a visit. If you can clearly define what you want done over the phone, you can ship them your TCM, but it kinda sounds like your request my require some test drives to dial it in. Some programing literally needs to be done by Allison corporate. The tech I talked to said that may be the case for me, as I want the downshift target gear that is prompted when the exhaust brake engages changed from 3rd to 4th. Tech said it usually only takes a day or two for Allison to return the new profile.

Wow, yes please that would be awesome! I'm in Walnut Creek, so easy drive to Hayward for me. With the ecohubs, I would love for the exhaust brake down to 0 mph. It currently cuts out around 10

Doubt you’ll get that. For trans health, exhaust brake requires TC lockup.

did you actually ring out the TPS resistor and confirm its response is linear? the TPS cal only sets the 0 and 100% pedal positions it does not really evaluate the slope in between, but TPS input has a huge effect on how the allison responds and shifts. I show how to check this out and show the cal procedure on my Youtube. Search under username Rronmar(2R's at the beginning:))

Are you in mode offroad? the trans may hold lockup deeper into 2nd with 1st as the lowest gear...

There is also a programmable option for manual or automatic lockup control(2 switches, manual/auto and on/off), but you would want a sure way of disconnecting it before you tried to roll to a complete stop...

Even 5 would be better. Offroad it's just not that useful with the ecohubs changing the gear ratio by half.
Yeah, no doubt it's no super effective after the Eco hubs install, no fault of the hubs of course. The speed it will stay engaged to will depend on TC lockup, so my guess is the speed your exhaust brake is disengaging now is likely where the TC is unlocking.

Yes, in mode. I was doing some real offroading and I'm glad I installed the rear locker too!20250214_162147.jpg

Speaking of reprogramming the TCM, does anyone know what it would take to be able to check the transmission fluid level using the keypad? Per the Allison manuals, it looks like this is a common way that many RVs with this transmission check their fluid level. Do the mil spec transmissions need an additional sensor, or can it be unlocked with programming?

It isn't listed on the schematic for the TCU on an M1078A1 truck. I don't think we have the sensor.

If we do, the WTECIII procedure is in this manual

Nice truck, would love to see some more photos of the front bumper mods.
Thanks
I'm currently looking at the Alison manual and they have all kinds of different shift point modes that can be programed. Performance or economy, with various degrees and you can even have both with a switch to select between 2 modes. Various engine braking modes too, with the WTEC III. So yeah, I would definitly be interested in taking it to Hayward. Have you taken your truck down to Holister yet? Would be cool to meetup with some other LMTVs. I know another guy in Concord who has one, but we've never been out.

Contact info for the Allison distributor I'm talking to about some programming on my A1R. Tech in the shop I spoke with is Michael, super knowledgeable.

Thanks, when are you going? I'm going on a overland trip next Tues. Wish I could do this before I go. Just looking through the manual, there is a lot they can do with the programing, including the exhaust brake rpms and shift points and they can make it upshift sooner and stay in gear longer. A button on the dash to shift between programs would be awesome too.

Not sure when I’ll make it over there. It’s likely two visits for me since the tech thinks he’ll have to request the programming change from Allison. First visit will be him pulling the current programming from mine to send to Allison. I also have a spare TCM that I want him to clone once I get monetized how I want it.

Another change I would like to have made. if possible, would be how manual downshifting is handled. Currently, the controller shows the gear I’m in and the max allowed gear, so if I’m in 5th, the controller will normally show 7th and 5th. If I want to downshift manually to 4th, I have to press the downshift button three times to command a downshift to 4th. If possible, I would like to have it changed so it downshifts from the current gear when I press the downshift button. It would also be very cool to have two exhaust brake profiles, one for on highway and one for off highway.

Guess I should read the manual and see what is possible.

Yes, manually selecting gears is a bit cumbersome. Not sure if we could get 2 profiles as we already use the mode button to control 4x4 mode. But if we can add a separate switch to control it that would be awesome.
