It's apart. :D
Brought it to the automotive shop in beautiful downtown Meadows of Dan and asked Wally for a little help. He put it in his press and after a few snaps releasing the pressure, it came apart. "Just stuck" he said.
Looks like there may be some minor surface pitting on some splines, but nothing major. With a new freeze plug and cross it should be good to go.

This application between two axles that don't move very much may have been the problem, no exercise. :)

Nothing like having the guy who does this kind of thing for a living have a go at it... :) Glad to hear that it is appart...
Now, go find something else on the truck to wrench upon... :)

(Meanwhile, I am headed out to work on the M817's exhaust...).
