Matt, #1 BRING THE JEEP!! That thing is beautiful. #2 What day are you all planning for a convoy?
Thanks Wheelspinner! Have y'all moved yet? You were moving down to the Pineville area weren't you?

Right now it's just me because no one that was talking about it has chimed in yet. I'm flexible on which day, but prob Wed or Thurs to limit the amount of vacation I have to take.

Coffey - if this does happen, it will more than likely be going down I-77 to I-26 to Durhamtown.

Hi, I’m ODFever. I have a few suggestions for the MKT.
Lunch & Dinner: cold subs such as turkey and bacon, ham, capicolla, salami, and roast beef. Limit the cheeses to provolone, American, and Swiss. Put the sub toppings on the side and make a ‘build your own sub’ bar on a small table. Put shredded lettuce, sliced black olives, onions, Greek peppers or banana peppers, sliced green peppers, jalapenos, and pickles in separate containers. Place the separate containers in a large cooler, and restock as necessary. Purchase mayo, mustard, and salad dressing packets that don’t require refrigeration. Place them next to the sub toppings.

Another thought I had for dinner is Sloppy Joes. I created my own recipe that’s easy to make, and the quantities can be multiplied to make large batches. I’d be more than happy to share the recipe with SGSC-G4.

I'm swbradley1 and my suggestions for the MKT are:

Keep going with the bag lunches from last year. My other suggestions about fries are off the table and probably burgers as well because without a deep fryer it isn't the same. I like the idea of build your own sub. Build the basic sub in the MKT and then pass it out for customization. You control the quantity of the meat and cheese and people make it their own.

Simplify and reduce the load on the MKT staff.

Do we want to rent handhelds BB radios again? We can also get a base station with a hard antenna that should give better range if needs be.
We have used GMRS handhelds at the VA Rally and did not have any problems with communications, but then it was line of sight for the most part (well, except for the trees covering the mountain side) and probably less than three miles. I plan on bringing my set along even if we don't use it (a dozen HH's).

I have two new GMRS and my Baofeng 2M handheld I'll be bringing.

It would be nice to have something that would work reliably on the trails for the ride leaders to use. You know, like HF with a full wave antenna..... ;-)

Hi, my name is Jonusmc. I am relatively new to both SS and MVs. This will be my first rally, and I am rather unlearned on all of the happenings surrounding such an event. It's easy for us to think of all these delicious meal options, but I believe the MKT staff should be kept in mind too. Sandwiches start out as a simple idea, but when you add a sidebar with 30 different condiments and garnishments, you end up causing a lot of work for the staff. Think of all the prep work that needs to go into those vegetables and garnishments. If it's something as simple as opening a jar and dumping it into a serving tray, so be it. I can only imagine how difficult, hot and stressful that job already is. So I propose something delicious and simple. Maybe one night it could be like a soup/sandwich combo. A few different types of soups and a few different types of sandwiches to mix and match to your liking. The way I read it, the cost of the food only covers their time and supplies and noone really profits from the MKT, so let's not make anyone's job harder than it has to be. Just my 2 cents. Oh yeah, and I second chili mac!

North Carolina - FINALLY !
Hello, I am wheelspinner, and I would like to see breakfast exactly as it was last year, with the exception of having grits everyday. Popop's grits are amazing and I can't wait for them. Lunch, was OK, its hard to plan who will be around and who will not. Box lunches seem to work just fine, and were fresh and tasty. Dinner.......CHILI MAC for sure, and Burgers could be had with oven roasted potatoes instead of fries. Other than that, I thought each meal was well planned and well prepared. I don't believe there is any chance that Mike will steer us wrong ! All I know is I CAN"T WAIT !!!!!!

It is possible to hoist an antenna up 60+ feet without using an antenna mast. Use a compound bow with an arrow painted bright orange. Have someone hold an old fishing pole near the bow. Zip tie the fishing line to the arrow. Shoot the arrow in a parabolic arc over a tall tree.

There are plenty of plans for pneumatic antenna launchers and tennis ball cannons on the Interwebs.

Does anyone have a pneumatic launcher, bow and arrow, or a spud gun?

Slingshot with a small lead fishing weight and a fishing rod. (I used to pull cable....)

I think that for the base we go with 2M base station on a PVC (or something similar) mast with a steel plate would be enough UNLESS we want to put up HF and work the world for other MV owners. ;-)

According to the PRC site (http://www.prc68.com/I/RC292.shtml) my antenna has a range of 36 miles (in all directions) when erected. That means we could reach Greensboro, Athens, Lexington, Washington, Warrenton, Sparta, and probably Eatonton - Durhamtown ain't that big! Formula Pi x R squared (3.14 x 36 x 36 = 4069 sq miles x 640 acres per sq mile = 2,604,160 acres). Mike McCommons dreams big, but he ain't there yet! I don't think the furthest trail is more than four miles from our site in a straight line measurement. My ICOM W2A on two meters picks up the Columbia repeater just fine, and it's over 25 miles away.

I shot this picture on May 19, 2014 (almost 2 months ago). Your hooch was still in place.
