I've been drooling oover those bed cranes for a while now. Let us know how it works out. I'm really interested in how well it pivots under load.

Biggest issue I see is a solid mounting point for it.

I am going to build a frame for it using square tube attached to both frame rails. I'll post about it when I get it done which won't be for awhile since it's backordered for at least a couple weeks.

weld & grind, then install yellow parts. You see, anything I replace I paint CAT yellow, that way I know what I fixed.

So I'll just tell you that, after a test drive, I have noticed one immediate effect due to the crossover steering : The truck would "tug" at the steering wheel at each upshift. It doesn't do that anymore.

Um, yeah, there are a couple of non-compliant features on this truck : no rear plate light or mudflaps. There is a light on the bumper, residual from when the plate was located there, I suppose I could turn it upside down so it faces upward. I'd rather run a wire into the tailgate tho. And am looking for mudflaps that have built-in VHF antennas then co-phase them. Highly directional, though I can drive up a hill then face the rear to where I want to talk.

I drove my 1984 M1009 hard the last 2 days. Over 500 miles. Then I greased the steering linkage and checked all the fluids. I have another trip planned for tomorrow. This vehicle will run forever. Constant PM and not altering it in any way is what makes it best.

Tonight switched out vacuum pump,mine is a 1009,replaced with a a used one from a 1008,the gear on my original was tapered much more than the one I replaced it with,but seems all is good.I still have oil pressure,will throw vac. gauge on tomorrow to check....Also tried to change cdr valve,is there a clip under the bottom of it remove? CDR valve figured out (beer related).Vacuum from pump 24 inches,vacuum from vacuum regulating valve on IP 0 inches...Going out to replace that now. Picked one up last month just in case.

Too funny,My favorites are passing people on the interstate when they are doing 70,I cant tell from the looks on their faces if they are scared or amazed?

Just got done replacing vacuum regulating valve(the one on the IP)
With cheap Chinese made SunPro vac./boost gauge 24inches from new/used pump,12 inches out of reg.valve,12 inches at transmission..My successes are starting to outweigh my defeats with my 1009.Finally!

Cut out floor, rockers, inner, outer front fenders, then ran out of time and had to go back to college. So there the truck sits waiting for me to come home. O and I was having a starting issue, the batteries would never hold, or get a charge. I was tracing wires, and checking connections for days. Finally realized I had a giant whole in the side of one of my batteries.

I celebrated to soon.Went out this morning at 530am motor wouldn't crank,solonoid clicking.Checked batts.,solonoid,and connections all good. Hit starter with hammer started right up! Time to order another starter.
