I just got an email from GL. As of today, you are not permitted on their grounds to load out without steel toe shoes. I am done doing load outs!

Death of a thousand cuts. Actually what idiot doing a pickup is now suing GL for dropping something on their toes.

I asked if they would issue the strap on guards, and she said just for tomorrow ( i have a load out tomorrow) after that, the real deal is required.

Haha! She's gonna give me a strap-on!

What about all the commercial drivers out there?? How will the requirement be enforced? They stomp your boot with a sledge before load out??

Everytime I have ever done a GL load out, I wear my favorite T-Shirt & Red Wing steel toe shoes. The chemical plant I work @ requires steel toe shoes & after the load out, I go straight to work....no sweat. Hard hat & safety glasses, they are in the truck if needed. The safety poster @ Jax states that no one can be in the yard with out them (safety gear); but it has never been pushed on me yet.

Now Gimpy with:
Haha! She's gonna give me a strap-on!

That is worse than Gimpy with a drill press in the shower..................................kinda scary!

Since I switched to Red Wing all my boots are metal toed. One pair is steel and the other is aluminium. I can go both ways. ;-)

The majority of my industrial clients require hardhats, safety glasses, steel toe boots and reflective vests when on their property, even when engaged in office-type work (I do efficiency consulting).

A lot of it is "safety theatre"-and it is an annoyance, but owning a pair of steel toe boots is probably not a bad investment.

The first time Gimpy drops one of those super heavy ballistic windows out in my barn on his foot we'll see if he sings a different tune.

That's like the oilfield these days. Preach safety, until a deadline can't be met, then they look the other way.

if any of you are going to invest in a pair of steel toes, your wasting money if you don't buy red wings. I have had all brands before. And redwing will last years of abuse, and if you ever have a problem they will always make it right in my experience.

pay an extra few bucks and have a boot for years

If your not ignorant and pay attention, you will never NEED steel toe shoes. We had a guy i was working with in construction, decided to drop a laminated beam on his toes "cause he had steel toes"

Almost cut his toes off.

I would think the key is Almost cut off his toes. Imagine if he dropped it on his toes with out steel toe boots. He probably would have squished them to nothing. Its takes more force to bend steel then it does to crush flesh and bones.
