These are great pics, GUNNUT, thanks a million:

- is the black-powder piece scaled, or is that the actual size of like a small field howitzer or something, do you know?

View attachment 624389
No, it is just a really big Mule and Jeep. :naner:

Well, the truth of the matter is - yes, I know quite a bit about that piece. I built it. It is a one-half scale 6 pound field artillery piece on a Pattern of 1840 carriage. It is the one I carry on the Mule in parades http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showth...1-4-mile-track-today-(timeslips-inside)/page2 and fire at home football games. You will also note I fired it (with one-half of a normal charge) in the video above.

I have a thread on another forum about the build on it, but I am hesitant to derail my own thread and I am not sure it fits well on this forum. :-? PM me and I will send you a link to the other thread.

BA-DA BA-DA BING BANG RALLY
May 22, 2016
SUBJECT: After Action Report (2016)
This was the second year for this event. For information concerning the origin of the event and other particular items concerning this event, refer to the After Action Report for 2015.

Lessons learned
S1 Personnel / administration

There was one vehicle that arrived later. Although the vehicle was expected, it did not register at the Registration Tent and was not located in the parking lot – most likely a communications issue. It did join the “Cruise” later. Space (or the lack of it) is becoming an issue. There was an increase of 20% in the vehicles from the previous year. This does not include the static displays.
Although this is a good problem to have, it is still a problem needing to be solved.

Dear Dr. BA-DA-BING:

I am extremely impressed how you pulled all this off, having myself just tried the same but involving only (4) vehicles.

It sometimes doesn't seem like much to anybody on the outside looking in, but there's never really anything easy (I know now) about making sure everything synchronizes smoothly when you pull together events like this.

"You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din". Cheers to you, Brother!

Hopefully some year I won't be tied up with a mv gathering at the same time and will be able to venture across the state to yours.

I will still keep you on my email distribution list - just so you will know what you missed.

You could come over the weekend before - or the weekend after, but there won't be so much to see. :-D

How many hours drive is to cross the State of Iowa?
Google Maps says about 4 1/2 hours. That is, if you take Interstate 80. That would be the East / West route. Our interstate speed limit is 70 mph, but my observation is that the "out of state" folks sure seem to be in a hurry to get through the state. I set my cruise at 70 and they pass me like I am standing still.

It will be about 3 1/2 hours on Interstate 35, which is the North / South route. I don't often drive North or South, but I suspect the observations concerning the speed limit are similiar.

If you go "cross country", it will take forever, because there are so many cool things to see and you have to stop and see them. :)

Of course, if you are driving a Deuce and a Half, it will take C-O-N-S-I-D-E-R-A-B-L-Y l---o---n---g---e---r. rofl

I am looking forward to checking out this year's event. I am trying to recruit a few others from Omaha & surrounding areas to join me.
Is there a pre registration required?
There is no registration REQUIRED, but I do like to know who is coming. It makes local advertisement and lunch/headcount easier. (I provide a free meal for the Owner/Operators. :-D)

I have sent you a PM.

Here we go, again!

It is time to start planning for the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] annual BA-DA BA-DA BING BANG RALLY.

This year’s rally will be held on the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] of May (Saturday). All other things will be the same as last year with a few exceptions.

We will start the Cruise 30 minutes earlier, since there was a request to do that after last year’s event. I suppose with the public arriving earlier than they are supposed to (not a huge problem, but a fact) and Owner/Operators wanting to get home before dark, folks just want to start earlier. No problem with me.

Some folks have indicated a desire to spend the night in Atlantic on Saturday after the Rally. They wanted to tour the Coca-Cola Museum – and whatever else they can find. If you are interested in participating in that, let me know and I will get a firm headcount for the Museum. They are not normally open on Sunday, but have agreed to come and open up for us. No guarantees, but I might be able to get some special rate at the local motels, too.

The cruise and the “Ice Cream Social” stop will be the same. It is not really necessary to let me know you are going on the cruise. When we leave, if you are in line, you must be going – right? I will take a headcount at the stop and get the ice cream bars then.

We still are not confirmed on the noon meal. I will feed you – ummmmm – “something”, so a headcount for your “crew” would be really handy.

Speaking of headcount; a confirmation of your attendance as early as possible would be greatly appreciated. It causes less stress in my life and makes advertising more effective. So far I have seven Owner/Operators confirmed and six vehicles.

The “participation gifts” for the Owner/Operators are not in, yet. I have ordered them, but they are back ordered. I am assured they will be here in time.

I have some door prizes already, but will most likely get some more – based on the anticipated attendance. Don’t forget to register your vehicle(s), when you arrive. Each vehicle gets a chance at the door prizes. I bought a GP Small tent and will have it set up for the Registration Table this year. When you arrive, come to the tent. If you told me you were coming – and I have all of your information, registration should go quickly. That will be the place to pick up your “participation gift”, welcome bag, etc. I will most likely personally present you with your trophy during the day, because . . . you know, they are really special and all.

I do have the trophies and will get them labeled just as soon as I get a chance to run the labels through my printer. (They aren’t really “nice” trophies, but everybody gets one.)

Please don’t use the Fareway parking lot to unload your vehicle. I have arranged the use of the Atlantic Bottling Companies lot north of the Armory. It is less congested, a great place to park your transport vehicle, and a safer place to unload your vehicle.

There are many places on the internet to read about the Rally. Check out these links:

This is the first of the emails I will send out for this year. When I have more information, I will send out another. Of course, if you have something you want me to know, just reply to this email.

Interested... I just picked up a 1970 M35A2 that seems to run pretty good. I'd like to get it out for a little weekend trip, but a deuce isn't exactly a good road trip machine for a disabled vet with a bad back.

Have you got a buddy that will drive it for you - and you can follow along in your car? If not, just come in your car and bring pictures of the Deuce. PM sent.

Does anyone have trouble finding a buddy who wants to drive their Deuce? If so, you need better buddies! ;) Yes, I'll share driving duties with a buddy or three.

I am working to recruit some additional members from our local 'group'....so far I have 4 that want to attend but 2 of them were already at last year's event. I should be able to convince another couple of them...

When do you want the rsvp's by?

Looking forward to this event!

I started putting out posters today.

I was at the City Council meeting last night getting the approval for the "parade permit" for the Cruise. While I was there, the news staff from the radio stations asked me about doing an interview to promote the event.

I went to two different motels to reserve blocks of rooms for those coming out on Friday and needing them for the night.

I have a meeting Monday night to propose a concept for our hosts and a food stand.

I went down to the Armory this evening to pick up a copy of a magazine I had down there - because I received an email about something EXTRA SPECIAL concerning one of the participants!!!!!! More on that later. (I mean this is so cool I almost want to mention it right now - but I won't. Trust me it is really really cool.) Just as a hint. If you have a copy of Military Vehicles Magazine, issue #182, June 2016, look though it for one of this year's participants. HINT: Don't look past the FRONT COVER!!!!!

Anyway, the sooner the better on the RSVPs. It makes parking, food, advertising, door prizes, stress reduction, well . . . almost everything much easier.
