Took the spare carrier off the parts M818 , built mounts and bolted it to the existing holes in the freightshaker's frame. Next step is to attach an aluminum slip-proof deck plate where the toolbox was. Never thought something from a 5-ton could improve a class-8 CMV and look good . Next step, mount a mil spare tire hoist to the stack support

I drove from KY to PA today. Went to KUBLOS SURPLUS to pick up a few things. New drivers door, new fenders, orings and a few odd things. Great guys up there. Really wanted to bring back a HEMMET.

I was curious to know if they were still in business. Their website is very static and their Youtube videos showing their inventory are very old so I wasn't sure if they went under. Good to know.

Yeah still in business. I am sure I will be back for more stuff. MYbe I can get him to let go of one of the S280 shelters he has. I need one.

Giddyup!

Took the M813 down to the local farm supply shop and picked up 2 tons of pellets for the winter. This year I bought better straps to secure them with and ratcheted them down quite tight. As expected, pellets settled like cereal in a box that's shaken up but this time, the straps were still secure when I got home.

25 piddly miles round-trip but weaving that hog through downtown Annapolis afternoon traffic isn't pleasant. MD/DC/VA is nationally ranked among the top worst drivers with the automobile insurance companies. Thank God the brakes are in good shape. The only indicator that I was carrying any sort of load in the back was that I had to apply a little more go-pedal on some of the hills. As usual, the truck operated perfectly and was a joy to drive.

I've recently gained some good experience with Gillespie paints on the HMMWV so I ordered more and been touching up all the rust spots on the big truck. I re-painted all the pioneer tools and rack to preserve them. I think I've worn down a couple more tires to the point where they should be replaced so I'll dig some out of my spares and put them on.

Oh- I scored a PCB for just a few bucks which I will rebuild using the resources here, to keep on hand as a spare.

Here's a short list of things I've done this year, and this week to my M818.

Replaced all torque rod bushings with the upgraded bushings with safety bar.
Added backup lights using MyothersanM1's thread Back up lights and alarm thread as the model to follow. Thanks
I replaced my rusted out air filter drum. I took the Those Military Guys High flow air filter and cage and placed it in my new drum.
I've had my PT pump rebuilt and turned up a little. Just a little. ( I did managed to break an old brass coupling and tube when reattaching it) :(
I replace my front bumper with a straighter one, and mounted some shackles on the bumper for stowing my chain.
I modified the front, passenger side headlight panel to hold a recessed IR light.
I replaced the faded mirrors with some new clear ones. (I think the silver backing was flaking of the glass of the old ones)

Besides some minor plumbing leaks I need to fix now, I will have to replace a few of the rear axle seals. They started leaking on me.

Did this a while back actually, but finished adding safety plates to torque rod ends.

Not the most fun, but not horrible after making that press.

also separated my batteries, isolated 2 bad ones and am working on getting them back up to snuff hopefully

Wait, do you mean to say that you drilled and tapped the torque rod bushings while they were still on the truck? I can see how that would not be fun. I had some serious rot on my all of mine so a replacement was necessary.

Yes, that's what I did,
The job wasn't too bad after I made the press tool so I could maintain pressure on the drill in those weird spots

TJ4man It looks nice. I like the truck... I keep thinking I need one of those. Have to ask though - what caused the need to raise an already top heavy (my opinion) bed by six inches? More room for a generator maybe? Or other things hanging off the frame possibly?

For several reasons...

1) larger tire (16.00r20) articulation. Those "wheel wells" extend up under the van body and with the 16's being about 5" taller (10" taller overall) I wanted the additional clearance for suspension articulation out back.

2) it raises the front "bonnet box" that extends forward, above the cab roof line. I am building an extended cab out of a semi sleeper, bringing the top out to the windshield.

3) I wanted to gain some height between the frame rails to move fresh and grey water tanks within the truck body, and not hang on the sides. I am getting a second fuel tank for the passenger side, and need that room along the outer frame rails.

Definitely trying to keep the center of gravity low by keeping storage, water, and fuel down on the truck so it is manageable off-road. I wanted to get tire storage down there as well, but just can't figure a good way yet (probably an over-cab rack unfortunately).

Makes perfect sense to me and adding water down low at 8.3 pounds to the gallon will definitely make a difference! Have you done any number crunching to see if the larger tires will improve your road speed? I know they won't do a lot when climbing a long grade, but on flat ground you might gain a few miles an hour maybe?

Again... A cool truck and with your extra features it will be even better!

Won't stay too low with 1600s. Driving a 934a1 or a2 is like driving a barn down the highway. Duals on the 934s sure help. Especially with the 10k box. If the box was aluminum and therefore lighter it wouldn't be so bad.

If you run into any issues around Indy and need a tow home. I have a spare 915 series truck between greenfield and mt comfort if needed. There is someone there who can operate it.
