Bummer, but all that data is still on there.

Plug it into a regular monitor via HDMI cable. You can still see what's on it. Then back up what you need onto a thumb drive or a backup hard drive.

If the broken one isn't too old, you can always use it as a pocket PC. I have one that does nothing but music in my shop and run my engine tuning software, and another that I may use as a built-in PC for inside the habitat or cab. I've used them in flight simulator builds, all kinds of stuff (I was a systems admin for 20 years so I was always getting the broken stuff). You can either disable the latch that shut the laptop off when closed (and use a standard keyboard and monitor) or remove the laptop lid/display all together if you want to retain the built-in keyboard).

This old Vista machine is not good for much: my banking app will not even talk to it. However, its a fine place to store 10,000+ pages of TMs.

just replace with one of the light versions of Linux and your good to go for another 5-10 years ..... and be better off... maybe even better off that Win 10
Mission-specific.

Older CPU and RAM can choke on modern software and Internet sites. But yes you can do a lot with an old Linux box. I wouldn't say better off due to the hardware antiquity. The physical components of a 15 y/o PC simply don't talk to each other or process data anywhere near the speed of a cheapo Walmart laptop today.

But as I said, it's mission-specific. There are still some low-requirement tasks it can perform until the day it dies.

If you want cheap, small and relatively powerful, just get a new Raspberry Pi and an external keyboard and monitor. You can do a lot with these and they're just as powerful as a 12 year old laptop.
PM me if you want help

Grok is more or less "a thorough understanding".

For the air, I got an adapter to hook to the glad hand once upon a time. I guess it's the same idea?
