What is the best way to test a 24v pump out of the generator? Get 2 batteries? Get a 24v battery?
Also, just browsing in case I need to buy a new pump it likes like they start at about $80. Weren't they really cheap at one time?

Two 12V batteries do work. If you do this much at all, a bench power supply is a lot cheaper. You set the voltage (and/or current), and can test away.

Pump prices vary a great deal. With the current uncertainties around import costs, I would anticipate even more variations in prices, so probably a time for even more comparison shopping.

All the best,

Thanks for that. I'll shop for a bench power supply. I'm sure I would have other uses for it as I maintain 2 small tractors and a bunch of other equipment.
It looks like the Facet brand pump runs $80-120 but I can get an off brand for $40. any reason not to get the off brand?

There are off brands, and there are off brands. To me, the risk with "cheap" ones is reliability.

FWIW: Rock Auto is having a close out at the moment on the 24V Carter P74018 pump, and you could get two for less than $40, plus shipping. 1/4-18 NPSF threads inlet and outlet.

I believe that Carter bought Airtex, and the P74018 is the Carter replacement pump for the Airtex E1074. I would double check that the threads on the P74018 above match what you have or need.

All the best,
