Good evening fellas
i will try to make this short this is in backup to a thread I read a while back about people treating your stuff like it belonged to them.
Last Sat about 5:00 am ther was an unusual amount of noise out by my Deuce that is parked on the street in front of my house. I get up look out the window to see aprox 10 kid's climbing all over my truck and there minivan driving soccer mom taking pics. The kids were all Cammied out so I am guessing they were going paint balling but they climbed on top of my soft top cab bent the stays and pulled out a couple of the twisty turney ( Dont know what their called) buttons that hold the top on over the side windows.
I know this has been covered before but WTF. Has our population gone mad when I was a kid in the 60's I wouldent even dream of leaning on someone's car much less climb on it. and the Mom letting the kid do it she is the one I am mad at. By the time I got my pants on they were driving off so no justice there .
next I was talking about this to a buddy of mine here in San Diego who happens to be a lawyer and I told him I was invited to show my stuff at the air show. And was advised not to by other more advanced collectors that i know here in town (one has the nicest Dodge Wc command car I haver ever seen ) And for the same reason you car become a jungle gym.
So I said to my friend I guess i can put a Danger do not touch or climb on sign on the truck.
He ( the lawyer ) said No go and he proceded to tell me a storry about a fella who was at a car show with some kind of vintage truck with a sign saying Danger keep off.
Well little 10 year old johnny climbed up fell off and broke his arm. The man with the truck was sued in court by the boys family and lost. Because the boys family's lawyer said you Knew the truck was dangerous you even had a sign on it stating this fact. why would you bring a dangerous item to a place where kids will play on it. Case closed.
I love my MV's and will talk to and even give rides to whoever wants what ever it takes to promote our hobby but Damm I don't want to get Sued for it>
Just my 2 cents :soapbox:

I took mine to a show and had the same thing happen. Looked over to see 3 or 4 kids in the truck. Went over and told them to get out. Later the grandmother tells me I'm roude. That the kids had every right to climb all over the truck. WTF! I had to walk away to keep from hitting her. One of the other older less hot headed guys try to talk to her till he had to walk away also. I will NEVER take my truck to another display. Mybe if I find enought concertina wire to go around it, I mite.?.?

calmly walk out, get on the bumper of her van and climb on up, whether or not you do a happy dance while up there is your call

This what my friend did in So.Fla
Kids were climbing all over his halftrack parked in front of his surplus shop, He asked the kids father what the heck they were doing the father just replied we're just checking it out, so my friend went over to their suv and opened up the back doors and started poking around inside the father came over and asked what the heck he was doing!,he told him he was just checking it out...they left.
We use to put signs on our vehicles that said "Historic military vehicles please keep off", it helped...some

We've taken our vehicles to many shows and had just the opposite expierence. A lot of parents will ask if their kid can sit in the truck or climb inside to have their picture taken. However, we were always around and would have corrected the kids if they had started climbing all over. Maybe there is a difference between California and Texas!

well, guess i am not setting the best example myself to kids these days. I let my niece and nephew play in the cab and around the truck (supervised).

I completely understand your frustrations.

I am wondering if a neon sign transformer could be modified to induce a high voltage, low amperage charge over the vehicle while parked . . . . . or maybe an agricultural fence buzz box, hmmmmmm.

Without the need to go ballistic here it would be nieve of me to think someone would not climb on the truck - thinking not everyone has common sence nor taught it - and as time goes on - less have common sence.

Figure out the total damage and time to make repairs - file a police report and charge them for vandalism.

I thank the ones that ask before they even decide to come near my meager MV that want to see it - touch it or sit in it.

Yes, yes there is. I can assure you of that.

I will let the kids have a look at my truck only if the parents are around. Most around here are pretty good about it. Had one kid down the street, must have been 3, brought me an old BDU top and said I have to wear it if I am going to be driving around in the truck. He is allowed to check it out.

Its a toss up

I truly believe it's a cultural thing and I don't mean ethnicity exactly.

We do several displays etc each year in different cities/rural areas.
It seems that the smaller cities and rural areas are the most appreciative of our efforts and show respect for our vehicles and equipment.

The other side of the coin is the larger cities and the local airshow.
It seems that parents bring their unruly brats into our display area and dump them while they go off and see the other sights!!

Last year at the airshow here in Columbus it got so bad we put away most of the smaller items and even had a "spotter" posted on top of the M109 to watch over things.
We always talk alot of smack and swear it's the last time....then we settle down and remember the ones that truly appreciated our efforts...and we go right back the next time.

So...it's a toss up.
Is the aggrevation caused by the unruly few outweighed by the majority of the well behaved who appreciate what we do??

Our answer is always....UMMMM....YEP.[thumbzup]
