Shift Indicator install help...

Does the cable that connects to the column go over a pulley or some thing or does it just run down the column.

The reason I ask is because I clip it back on to the area the military marked and it does not seem to line up at all.

BTW I found a company that makes just the orange indicator.

no it hooks to the column... shift the truck from park to drive and you will see the column rotates. where that wire is hanging right now in the pic is where it clips on to. well close to it... you will need to find the correct place to slip it on. Its not that hard man trust me.

Yea I did that and could not seem to get it lined up...it would always be off either near P or near the 1 and 2.

Yeap that is the info I was looking for. When I took it apart some one had already disconnected it.

Hmm...looking at my cluster mount is this supposed to be a half circle like this. Almost looks like it has been broken off?

Unfortunatly you are correct it is broke, your lower part is missing

When I took mine apart, it had a piece of masking tape over the gap....I removed the old crusty tape and installed new. should last another 20 years......

That's exactly what I did, except I used a short piece of copper tubing around the screw. I works great. I pilot drilled a hole in the metal part behind the piece that broke off, and it put a sheet metal screw with the copper tubing "sleeve". I used the copper tubing so I could tighten the screw down on it to keep it tight. I'm not sure it would stay tight without pulling the screw down against something.

I might have to go with copper then...that way the plastic I use doesn't fall apart in a few years. I will post pics of the mod. Also, was any of this info about threading the shift indicator wire through the gauge bezel in any of the TMs? If so I could not find it.

That is what I had to do t mine. I used a washer at the head of the machine screw to make more area to keep the thread in place.

It is not needed the factory used masking tape.
found this out on a brand new cucv in 1984.
it was in the building west of Flint Mi truck & Bus
this is where we use to inspect and aprove the da dd250 if any thing had to be fix this building is where it was done.

Got it working. I used a sheet metal screw, tubing from a brake line and a washer.
