Actually.....This truck IS one of the "push button" Allison transmission and air ride cab M916s....It is cannibalized though so I don't know if the tranny is still in the truck.....

Yeah....we certainly can't trust their discription. There is really no way though to see from the pics if the Allison tranny is still in the truck. You can see the cab ride air bag and related bracket in one of the pics and I noticed that the trottle position sensor is missing of the engine. all you can see is the 3 wire plug hanging out that used to plug in to it. It was certainly the same truck as mine.....just don't know how much was left of the goodies after they canibalized her......
If the Allison was still in the truck.....some one certainly got a REALLY GOOD DEAL on it!!!

Ok....I really had good luck with the Equal powder / beads. I run it in everything of mine and it performs awesome. I had tried dynamic spin-balancing on the machine and the system that does it right on the truck and it always still had sume vibration left....( mostly between 96 and 103 MPH...LOL)
The tires that I used the Equal in, run completly "smooth" at all speeds....

If you run it in the 53"s, the quantity chart from Equal asks for 20 ounces or (2) B-size bags. I noticed that it does not hurt to put a little more in to the big ones then what they recommend. You just don't want to go short. (the balancing compound actually starts working AGAINST you if you don't use enought to be able to take care of the tires imbalance.... (the whole truck starts "hopping" like a Kanguru.....lol)
Also, make sure to use the special valve stem inserts that should come with the Equal packages and install metal valve caps that have the rubber seal in them....

I didnt think you had to do anything to it to install the wheels & tires.

Truck does look bad ass I cant wait to put a set on my m916.

No, it has exactly the same front axle and drums. The difference is that I have 22.5"x 13" rims on my M920A1 with 445/65R22.5 Michelin XZL WBs, versus the 20"x 10" HEMMT wheels with the 16.00R20 Michelin XZLs.
The 22.5" rims have more clearance and don't need any mods....I will poste a drawing and some pics on what needs to be done to the front drums....

This is considered a "military" transmission by Allison and therefore is extra pricey. So with the ECM (electronic control module), the TPS (trottle position sensor) needed for the mechanical engine, the touch pad shifter and the PTO option....it runs in the high 30s, new from Allison!....pretty crazy huh...?!?!

Sure works beautiful though.....shifts like a Cadillac....!!!

The World Series 4560 series HD trans cost around 9-11k for a normal rebuild. Shooting from the hip I would guess this trans would be 2-3k more just because it's not the normal HD Allison spec you see in most plow/garbage/etc trucks.

I have customers with 4560 Allisons with 20,000+ hours without an overhaul. And thats in residential garbage trucks stopping and full throttle starting 900-1200 times a day. Shock loading the trans in the landfill when they get stuck, etc. You gotta love American robust engineering.

I noticed reading through Allison's spec sheet that they offer a "retarder" that goes on the very back of the HD4070.... Do you know if they work well?

Hi Soni:
I like the retarder on my HT755 very well. This trans allows you to operate in "anable" works only on braking automaticly or "apply" on untill turned off. Trans temp rises moderatly but Ive never had to disengage the retarder due to high temp. Here in the Appalacians the retarder is adequate by itself to maintain safe speeds without applying service brakes. I dont have a Jake, so Im sure with a retarder Jake combe you would never need the service brakes for highway driving. Hope this helps.
